We, the undersigned, are dedicated Houston Astros fans and frequent listeners of the Astros' radio broadcasts.

We were saddened and dismayed at the news that Alan Ashby was fired from the broadcast team for 2006.

Mr. Ashby was both a player and a broadcaster for the ballclub for many years. We enjoyed his insightful analyses, entertaining stories, and his clear and descriptive presentation of game action. We feel that his removal from the booth will lessen the quality of the Astros' radio broadcasts.

We ask the Houston Astros to reconsider their decision to fire Mr. Ashby, and reinstate him for the 2006 season and beyond.

    • It just won't be the same without Ash behind the mike! Why change a good thing?

    • I was deeply saddened by Alan's firing. His work behind the mic was outstanding and he's an Astro. He was and is somebody I trusted to tell me what was happening while Milo was trying to follow the baseball and failing. Our broadcast team just got worse in my opinion.

    • More than being an ex-Astro player for 11 years, Alan Ashby was a professional, who brought great insight to the Astros' broadcast booth. He explained things only an ex-catcher could. He was articulate and served Milo Hamilton well. He will sorely be missed. Mr. McLane should reconsider his firing and bring him back in some capacity.

    • If Ash could blossom under Milo's long shadow, with his competence, professionalism, and clubhouse savy, he would be a cinch to shine brightly on his own.

    • Bring back Mr. Ashby. His insightful, no BS analysis is a refreshing change from the TV commentator corps who seem afraid to make any useful commentary and fill the airtime with useless trivia tidbits.

    • Unfortunately the Astros kept the wrong broadcaster. Milo is good and at one time was outstanding. But time has passed him by. Ashby is the one who kept the fans connected to the team.

    • It's sad that a petition has to be made to try and persuade the Astros to keep Ashby. The new broadcast team should have been built around Ashby! Drayton, you've lost all my respect!

    • Re-instate Ash! I don't get it; finish the season on the highest note in team history - and start off the next with one of the dumbest and lowest moves you could do!
