Dear Mr. McLane,

We, Astros fans, share your vision of and desire for victory and, more importantly, a World Series championship. Recently, Padres' pitcher Jake Peavy has made it known that he would love to play for the Houston Astros, and with his good friend Roy Oswalt. We wish to inform you that we, too, would immensely enjoy watching Oswalt and Peavy pitch back-to-back in the Astros' rotation. We understand that our farm system is weak, and that trading for a player of Peavy's quality undoubtedly would require large sacrifice on our part, however we believe it would be a huge step in the right direction towards becoming the type of championship club that you and we both want. We believe that with the current roster, namely players such as Lance Berkman, Carlos Lee and Oswalt all signed to long-term deals with no-trade clauses, rebuilding is not an option. We also believe that after the surprising finish during the 2008 season, the Astros are very close to being one of the best teams in the National League. This petition's purpose is to urge you to strongly pursue trading for Jake Peavy, and to turn this franchise into a legitimate champion.
