Mario Lavandeira (a.k.a. Perez Hilton) has had a history of being trans-phobic and openly hostile to members of a community that Lavandeira is apart of. It would make complete sense if Lavandeira didnt use members of the LGBT community to benefit his own pocketbook since he has openly worked for LGBT organizations like GLADD, but Lavandeira continues to use LGBT status as an insult. One example is how he refers to Lindsay Lohan as LezLo. He thereby erases the possibility that she is bisexual completely erasing bisexual identity.
His main issue is that he continuously uses trans identity as the ultimate insult. He has referenced Samantha Ronsons masculinity by calling her saMANtha, made references to Brooke Hogan being a tranny, calling Eddie Murphy a tranny chaser and recently made a reference to Khloe Kardashian being a shim. Lavandeira needs to acknowledge that he is wrong for using those kinds of statements. We as a community need to support one another, and he is actually using communal identity to bring heterosexual readership, and further his own economic agenda. This petition will hopefully garner an apology as well as a possible reformation of the way he insults people.

- I think Perez should STOP being transphobic. He is PART of the community. He should be more compassionate when it comes to using the community the way the Patriarchy wants him too. Being Trans of LGBT-identified is NOT ABNORMAL and is a GREAT thing. He needs to stop using this identity as a way to put down others.

- The mainstreaming of gay and lesbian identities by constantly saying "yes, but at least I'm not X" (bi or trans) is not a liberating or community-building strategy for anyone! We all do better when we all do better, and we ought to be able to come together for what we all need. Transphobic language keeps that from happening, and sanctions everyday violence against my friends.

- Unfortunately, many members of the LGBTQ community are transphobic and this certainly needs to be remedied. But it's especially upsetting that Perez chooses to be so ignorant, because there are so many dim-witted people out there who think he's a ~gossip god~ and read his blog religiously/mimick his oppressive behavior. As long as members of the LGBTQ community and their allies refuse to believe that ALL OF US deserve to be treated with dignity, we will never be able to combat heteronormativity effectively.
