On February 13, 2008, NBC aired an episode of Law and Order titled "Illegal". The plotline of the episode was a NYPD Auxiliary Police officer shooting a gun into a crowd of innocent civilians at a peaceful protest, killing a woman. In the episode, numerous derogatory statements against the Auxiliary Police were said, including calling a Auxiliary Officer a "wannabe", and saying they are not "real cops".
NYPD Auxiliary officers call these statements and this episode a slap in the face to the Auxiliary police, and a complete disrespect to all Auxiliary officers. Auxiliary officers are volunteer officers who volunteer their time to patrol the streets of NYC to help the community and keep crime down. Auxiliary officers go through a training course before becoming Auxiliary officers, and they patrol the streets of NYC in full police uniform. While on patrol, they run the same risk of getting injured or killed as regular officers.
This petition is to demand NBC have an episode of Law and Order that positively represents the NYPD Auxiliary. We feel that the episode "Illegal" was not a accurate representation of the Auxiliary police in many ways, and feel that the Auxiliary police and its officers deserves a proper representation on Law and Order.

- The episode contained portions that are technically and realistically incorrect. Two NYPD Aux Officers were murdered in the Line of Duty in 2007 and this episode is totally disrespectful. You made allegations and statements under the guise of creatrivity that diminish the role and sacrifice of Volunteer Members of the NYPD.

- This episode shows total disrespect for all Auxiliary Police Officers. It portrays us as a bunch of incompetant buffs. I for one will never watch NBC again until they apologize.

- We have enough bad press with recent events without the public media fueling more. Please have another episode that postively represents us, and please correct the obvious mistakes made as far as uniforms, etc.

- I'm an Auxiliary Police Sergeant and currently on my 13th year. I dedicated my honesty, time and life faithfully to the city of New York with pride. I'm NOT a wanna be. I'm proud to be an Auiliary Police Sergeant. I would encouraged everyone to take the time to really undertsand what we do. You dont have to like it but we ask that you just show us some respect, support and just simply say "Thank You". We are the largest volunteer (Reseve) police force in one of the biggest cities in the nation. Remember we were there for the black out, currently in one of the top terroristic cities targets in the nation and September 11, 2001.I personally would like to ask NBC to do two things. First I asked NBC to please issue all Auiliary Police Officers an public apology. Second to please is to make the proper adjustments in airing the correct role of an actual Aulxiliary Police Officer on Law & Order. NBC please do whats right. Thank You Respectfully from A/Sgt. Lugo

- An auxiliary police officer answers the call of John F. Kennedy each and every time he or she puts on the uniform. He or she gives up valuable time in support of his or her city. It is a shame that television shows seek out to diminish the actions of each and every professional auxiliary officer.

- This is a slap in the face of many men and women in the City of New York who give their time for FREE to keep this city safe. If every single Auxiliary Police Officer in the NYPD was to pick up their things and walk out on the Department. The crime rates would take a hit. Even though we do not conduct investigates we are still part of driving crime to the lowest and detering any crimes that take place. Do you know what the actual Auxiliary Police Officer do throughout various commands in New York. I am guess the answer is NO. Also lets not forget what happened almost a year in the village. If you have forgotten a quick reminder would be the two men who walked into the mouth of danger. The auxiliary police force in the NYPD has change a great deal since the first time it was put into place. If you look into the NYPD and officers backgrounds a hand full of them were Auxiliary Police Officers.

- They should think about what people will think about that. As you know, TV gives a strong opinion about Police Department. So, can they be careful with words and actions?
