The Ashland Vikings Football league, under the direction of the new Commissioner of Football, has chosen to refuse to let James Emmanuel Scoop Holman coach for the upcoming football season. Despite repeated requests for information, reasons for this dismissal have not been released.

As you may know, Scoop enjoys widespread support among the parents of his team, and has lead the boys on that team to a Metro title and the playoffs in consecutive years.

Scoop Holman has been associated with Ashland Vikings football for over 25 years. He began playing with the Ashland Vikings when he was on the Junior level in middle school. He went on to play football at Liberty Middle School and then on to Patrick Henry High School . Some of his many football accomplishments as a player are as follows:

1981 Ashland Youth League Best Offensive Back
1983 Liberty Middle School MVP
1983 Liberty Middle School Best Offensive Player
1983 Liberty Middle School 1st place team
1986 Patrick Henry High School Richmond Times Dispatch Player of the Year
1986 Patrick Henry High School Offensive Player of the Year
1986 Patrick Henry High School All Colonial District Football Team - Offense

His coaching accomplishments in football include the following:

MYFL 2002 Assistant Head Coach/Offense Metro Flag Division Runners Up
MYFL 2003 Assistant Head Coach/Offense Metro Pee Wee JV Division Champions
MYFL 2004 Assistant Head Coach/Offense Metro Pee Wee Varsity Division Runners Up
MYFL 2005 Assistant Head Coach/Offense Metro Midget Varsity Division Champions
MYFL 2006 Head Coach Flag Division Champions
MYFL 2007 Head Coach Pee Wee JV Playoffs

Scoop also served as Athletic Director for the Ashland Vikings in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

He is also very active in coaching basketball for the Ashland Youth Association as well as managing baseball and serving on the board for Ashland Little League.

Scoops love for football and his desire to give back to the kids in Ashland is what motivates him! He coaches to be able to give back to the community.

Petition: We the undersigned call on the Ashland Vikings and the Ashland Youth Association to re-instate Scoop Holman as the Head coach of the Pee Wee Varsity team for the upcoming season.

    • I have experience with Scoop in the Ashland Little League and AYA basketball where Scoop volunteers his time as a manager, coach and a basketball referee. Scoop has helped these organizations many times over the past, and I hope he will continue to do so in the future.

    • There are no grounds for dismissal as I have served on the Vikings board for two years. There have been no complaints or problems with Scoop. I am a teacher of many many years and know he and his staff has what it takes.

    • The Ashland Vikings and its so-called "Commissioner" and Board are doing nothing but hurting themselves in this self-centered and self-deserving decision. My child plays for another association so why should I care? I do only because it is plainly WRONG and I can't stand people who are in a position of authority and then abuse it! Who cares about the kids here? Certainly NOT your Commissioner and Board!!! The kids is what this should be about and who can teach them to play the game. I hope the prior Commissioner of this association, parents of these kids and other interested parties don't let this go and they get to the bottom of this! Maybe somebody else should be "Dismissed."

    • Scoop is one of tthe best coaches Ashland has ever had. It's not fair to let only one coach go, especially suvch a great one. He has done a very good thing by teaching so many kids to be successful in football. They need to keep him as a coach!

    • I have witnessed Scoop coach and he had great knowledge of the sport and tons of patience with the kids. What a shame for the kids this has happened! Something needs to be done!

    • What a shame- you people need to speek up and make this stop on your own! Don't let this happen to your kids. You are the ones paying for this league. If you don't like it - stop it!!

    • The Commissioner of the Ashland Vikings has dismissed Scoop Holman from coaching for the Ashland Vikings. Very interesting that the commissioner says he has numerous parent complaints regarding Scoop and this is the reason for this dismissal. Ask yourself how did this new commissioner get these complaints when the former commissioner, former AD's and former metro reps received no such complaints against this coach. How would the commissioner get these complaints???? Did he go out seeking them because he has an alterior motive in mind? This is a warning to all of you......if you happen to fall out of his good graces, you might find yourself a part of a smear campaign by this same man.

    • Scoop is an asset to the Ashland community. Banning him from coaching would only disappoint the ones we are supposed to be looking out for, and that is our children.
