Whereas Florida's property tax is now out of control and oppressively burdensome to all property owners to the point many are losing their homes and property;

Whereas the property of Florida citizens should not be liable to seizure by the State in the case that their Property Tax is delinquent or unpaid, even though their home and property is paid for in total;

Whereas the Florida property tax is a regressive tax, meaning the poor and middle classes end up paying a higher percentage of their income than the richer classes do;

Whereas the poor are being unnecessarily encumbered with higher rents than should be necessary because property owners and landlords have to pay increasing property taxes;

Whereas the elimination of Florida property taxes will potentially allow renters to be more likely to finally own their own home;

Whereas all property taxes work to punish those who are the most productive in society, along with savers and retirees;

Whereas the property tax was promoted and enacted by certain politicians in the early 1900s, who briefly strayed from the ideas of our Founding Fathers of individual responsibility only to become enamored with European/Russian socialist theories of redistribution of the wealth and property of the citizenry;

Whereas a small increase in the Florida State Sales Tax to replace Florida's Property taxes is a more fair tax, which does not just penalize only home and property owners, but is levied equally on all citizens (Florida's State Sales tax is not collected on basic needs such as food, rent, prescription drugs, etc.);

We, the undersigned citizens of Florida, do hereby demand that all Florida Property taxes, in all forms, be eliminated totally; that NO property tax, whether commercial or residential, homesteaded or non-homesteaded, be left in place. The right to own Florida property is to remain unencumbered by any kind of fee, tax, etc. that enforces payment to another person, group, government or entity that is not the rightful owner of that property; loss of revenues to State and local governments, due to these actions, should be solved by these legislatures, but we recommend a 1\% raise in the State Sales Tax and at least a 10\% reduction in all government spending by all departments across the boards except for police and court systems (those being true, constitutionally-authorized departments).

    • I think property taxes in Florida are outrageously high and therefore impeding the real estate values in the stae. This is also a deterrent for retirees deciding to relocate to Florida.I previously lived in the wealthiest community in the U.S., Fairfield county, CT, and my taxes on a property 2X the value of my home here were about the same. Also my insurance on a home worth 1/2 is DOUBLE ! This is ridiculous all the way around. C.Baranet
