We, the undersigned, request that Apple Computer, Inc. officially acknowlege the defective NVidia GPU (models 8400M and 8600M) shipped with MacBook Pros (models from June 2007 and Feb. 2008). The faulty chips causes the complete failure of the GPU, resulting in a blank screen.

Since the defect seems to return even replacing the logic board, its clear that NVidia continues do make faulty GPU chips. Giving us only a short term solution.

We believe that Apple should support us, providing free repair and extending the warranty.

- I had to buy a warranty extension and a new computer, due the almost 30 days with my computer in the service, for 2 times! The new logic board is not compatible with the original installation discs (osx10.4)

- I had my MBP logic board replaced under warrantee, but the problem then repeated again, and resolved mysteriously. It has now worked for the past two months, but for the first time I bought an extended care warrantee for over $300. I have never bought an extended warrantee before since owning 8 Macs since 1986. Is this the new Apple?

- My MBP still was in waranty. I believe anyone with this problem should be helped free of charge. Apple, not your fault, but make Nvidia pay for the repairs.

- Purchased July 2007. R.I.P. 22nd Sept. 2008 (GPU dead two months after warranty ended). Exactly the same symptoms, when I log in via ssh system profiler tells me I have an intel graphics chipset!!!!

- Similar problem. MBP can start-up with sounds but screen is blank. Hooked it up with external monitor and no image on it as well. Bought it April 2007. Am quoted SGD $ 1,000 odd for repairs.
