We, The Undersigned, believe that Barry Shlachter, columnist for the McClatchy-owned Fort Worth Star-Telegram should be fired unless he prints an apology in his column for mocking the private burial service of Arthur J. McKee, distinguished and heroic fireman of FDNY Ladder 148. We feel Mr. Shlachter's unnecessary inclusion of private burial details in a story wholly unimportant to Fort Worth's business community was hurtful to the business reporting reputation of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and action must be taken for his editorial behavior.

    • The level of editorial pride is so high at the FWST, they cannot bring themselves to see what everyone else seems to see, and that is the idiotic and unnecessarily defamatory remarks made about my father's burial service. Them keeping silent about this is indeed a low for FWST.

    • I can't believe that the heads of star telegram condone this behavior of their staff and fill that what was done doesn't need a written public apology

    • I find the situation is most accurately summed up in the synonyms for "absurd" : 1. irrational, silly, ludicrous, nonsensical. Absurd, ridiculous, preposterous all mean inconsistent with reason or common sense. Absurd means utterly opposed to truth or reason: an absurd claim. Ridiculous implies that something is fit only to be laughed at, perhaps contemptuously: a ridiculous suggestion. Preposterous implies an extreme of foolishness: a preposterous proposal. http://tinyurl.com/re4a3s

    • It is only the right thing to make an appropriate public apology to both Mr. McKee and his family for the published irrational scrutiny Mr. Shlachter recklessly imposed upon them in their time of loss.

    • I am appauled that the funeral of a veteran was mocked. This is insulting not only to our brave men and women who have fought for us, but everything we stand for as a country.

    • I happen to know that Robert McKee was very devoted to his father and for someone to ridicule him in print for doing something to celebrate his father's life is unbelievable!

    • MNI stock had its worst day ever yesterday, the last thing they need is to project the image that they do not have a human side. Swallow the pride, FWS-T, apologize for him if he won't do it himself and move on. Your company cannot afford these reckless 'articles' and this reckless disregard for a person's grave service, no matter what you want to call it.

    • On at least two occasions he got his facts wrong. Normally that's forgivable to a reporter, but not when you try to appear as if you're launching an investigation. BS was uninterested in the details about this contest and more interested in the juicy story of McKee's whereabouts. I read the article and my interest was not piqued by his report nor was I amused by his patronizing focus. Does anyone edit or greenlight this stuff before it hits the stands?

    • As a journalist, I find the lack of apology to be a sign of the times for the newspapers. This man's writings cannot possibly be seen as a gem of that paper by the editors. The epitome of unprofessionalism.
