WHEREAS we, your petitioners, are deeply concerned about the continuing rise in global greenhouse gases, and the dire threat that they pose to the future of our planets civilization and ecosystems, and our children, and

WHEREAS the Province of BC has made a legislated commitment to reduce BCs greenhouse gas emissions by 33\% by 2020, and

WHEREAS buildings produce 12-13\% of BCs greenhouse gas emissions, and

WHEREAS the LiveSmart BC program of incentives to encourage green and efficient building upgrades was very popular and successful,

WHEREAS building efficiency retrofits can stimulate the development of the new, green economy, through demand for skilled, local workers,

THEREFORE we do most urgently request that the government find new funding to continue the LiveSmart BC program.

We further request that government make a policy commitment to support a general efficiency upgrade to BC's building stock, and develop ways to leverage investment energy efficiency upgrades, through low-interest "pay-as-you-save" loans repayable through utility bills.

    • The cancellation of this program before its normal end date has resulted in reduced work for contractors, energy auditors. It has struck at small businesses. It has also caused a significant reduction in opportunities for the government to help residents reduce their GHG emissions. Using money to help drill for oil at the same time as closing this program is a blatant ignoring of what this prrogram was about. The prgram's discontinuance is a clear indication of the government's lack of interest in GHG emission reduction. Please show a real commitment to this important global probem and reinstate an expanded LiveSmart BC program

    • We cannot afford to keep going on like nothing is happening. Mr Coell you are personally responsible for the loss of farmland on the Peninsula when you don't speak up, you should be encouraging all local governments on the Peninsula to do more to green themselves and help citizens become greener, you should be an advocate in the Legislature for what we want and we want a protected environment safe from development and waste. I understand you never stand up and speak on behalf of your constituency--time to start speaking out or lose the job!
