The goal of this petition is to convince Be Incorporated (www.be.com) to release its Be Operating System (BeOS) in an open-source form. The Be Operating System is an excellent one, and one that deserves to be updated by its community of devoted developers (a la the Linux community). Since the availability of BeOS is scarce, and its future uncertain, this course of action would be most beneficial to the future of BeOS and the BeOS community. Sign here if you think BeOS should be open-source!

    • I think it would be better to do SOMETHING to make it more accessible, and this seems to be the best way.

    • BeOS is technically superior OS compared to many of it's competitors, and now that Be inc doesn't seem to keep it up to date, it would be really shame to let this great OS die.

    • i think this is a good idea, even though i tried installing BeOS and running it and before it ever started up the first time, it said startup path not found halfway through loading..come on, i made a boot disk! stupid crap. see, if it was open source, this wouldnt have happened

    • It would be so bad if such a rich and clean OS as BeOS is not allowed to compete with Windows and Linux/FreeBSD anymore

    • Or even just "license" the source to some other party so that development under NDA could continue past Be, Inc.'s lifespan.

    • I'd be happy if Be, Inc. even retained rights to the changes, I just want to get on with it.
