The Sad Conversation With My Ex Best Friend On Health Care

First off, when I sex ex best friend, I mean we're not as close as we used to be, and probably never will be again. This is still someone, I care for deeply, I just also no longer trust. This is also someone who wants me to come around to her way of thinking on illegal immigration and hates the idea of health care reform. Ironically, her provider Blue Cross just dropped her when she wasn't paying attention. And then charged her $1,200 to reinstate her.

Sadly, she seems to get all her information from Fox News. A company who gives people like Michelle Malkin, whose first book was called In Defense of Internment Camps, a place to talk. A place where Rush Limbaugh, the guy who tells me which supreme court nominee is racist, while playing Barak the Magic Negro on his website. Limbaugh telling anyone who's racist is like the KKK telling the NAACP how to run their affairs.

You know it will involve a rope.

When I asked her about her opinion when it comes to torture and rendition, she called prosecuting violations of the Geneva Convention tit for tat.

For as long as I've known her she's been black.

All I have to say is Fox news, and cowards like Sean Hannity who say water boarding isn't torture, and lacks the moral courage to experience it, Fox news is doing very well when a single black human being, who's ancestors have endured hundreds of years of lynchings and mob rule don't understand how evil and wrong torture and rendition are.

What did she hate about health care reform?

She doesn't like the idea of the government choosing her doctors. I said, show me any line in the Senate or House version of the bill that gives the government that right and I'll picket along side of you. She hadn't read either bill.

I asked what was another reason she didn't like the bill?

She didn't like the fact they're not sharing the bill with the public. I asked if she understood the process by which a bill, any bill, becomes law. That it usually starts in a committee. Republicans and Democrats change it through amendments. And after the House and the Senate approve a version, that may have been amended hundreds of times. Then, both houses hammer out a compromise between the two bills.

She had no clue how a bill becomes law.

She just wanted one bill, placed on line for the public to view and then be voted on. When I explained that never happens, not with any bill, she stopped listening.

The sad part is, most everything that she believed was misinformation that can be traced back to Fox news. And because she comes from a place that can afford to be screwed, she'll lay aside, let herself remain uniformed and stand back as people like my mom pay what nearly amounts to a mortgage payment for her Diabetes mediation.

While I realize there's little I can do about it. I was thinking, someone really should Boycott Fox news sponsors. I assumed someone already compiled the list. Here it is. Signing this petition is just a pledge to try to avoid using these companies whenever possible:

Here's the link that did the hard work of compiling the sponsors.

It's a small gesture, but conservatives seem to understand how to use their pocket books to influence culture. It's time liberals took a play from their book.

You will have to cut and paste the link because I can't add HTML
