- Big Red Indian Class of '87. Everything I did was in reverence toward the Native American culture. It is a grievous wound indeed that my work to enlarge the awareness of their culture would be labeled as bigotry by those whom I sought to honor.

- Long before it was law or even politically correct, Muskegon High School's treatment of the Native American was never anything but reverent. We learned so much from the tradition and learned to honor and respect the culture. What a great way to educate and encourage understanding among cultures - especially for the only truly integrated high school in the county! I would, however, want this to be done with the approval of the local Native American population.

- This is a travesty!! The Big Red Indian has to be preserved. No one wants to see it abolished. Muskegon is my High School, my parents, my in-laws, Benny Oosterbaans, and Earl Morrells. Dont let this happen!!

- Tradition and honor are important across all lines of culture. This was a highly sought honor among Muskegon High School students. It is truly a shame to treat it as something wrong to help others learn of the Native American culture.

- The Big Red Indian was so respected among students and always was the best looking mascot on any football field. MHS students and alumni show nothing but pride when thinking of this historic school and its beautiful Indian head emblem. Bring our beloved mascot back to our 2004 State Champions!!!

- I am native american and do not feel that the mascot was in any way degrading to my nationality. If anything, it brought pride to our people. To finally be able to share our heritage openly, without shame or fear of conflict, it has been taken away, AGAIN. Please listen to our people and bring back the Big Red Indian!!!

- I am a graduate of MHS and currently live in Minnesota and have worked for the Sioux Indian nation. They are not offended by respectful reference to them. Certainly MHS's Big Red has always been an image that all students have always respected. As a final thought, why don't you drop all of this P.C. crap and concentrate on something more important---such as education!!!

- For years and years the Muskegon Big Red Indian was the most revered and honored mascot around. Thinking that it was disrespectful to a nation of people is just unconscionable.
