The purpose of this petition is to prove that black bears are wrongfully being killed in bear hunts in New Jersey. The Undersigned agree with this petition and demand a stop to these hunts!
There are many people who believe that the black bear population in New Jersey is reaching a dangerously high number. These people think that black bears are intruding on their lives, and that with an overpopulation beginning to occur, there will be a public safety issue. This assumption is the effect of false information that feeds off of an unfortunately common, yet unjustified, fear. The so-called solution that has been proposed for this so-called problem is to enforce a population management plan and have bear hunts in the state of New Jersey.
However, there is a common misconception that accompanies the name bear. This is just an ignorant word association that has influenced and interfered with wildlife preservation. People believe that all bears are predatory and hazardous, and they are afraid of them. Black bears are NOT the same as ALL bears! To see a black bear in its natural habitat, unaffected by human interaction, is beautiful and majestic. The problem here is not the increasing black bear population, but that people cannot help what they afraid of or not used to. Past regulations, unjustified fears, and lack of comfort with change have impaired the thinking of those who can really make a difference. Black bears should not be hunted down and unfairly killed because some people do not know about them and do not care. They should be respected and aided in their environment. Human beings are just weak individuals for killing other living creatures because of their irrational fears and lack of compassion!
The Undersigned of this petition are against the black bear hunts in New Jersey. We demand a stop to all the unfair treatment and killing of black bears!

- There are much more effective ways of controlling "nuisance" bears. Education, not killing is the answer. We cannot kill every species some people fear. We are all part of a much larger picture and need to learn to live together. Killing can never the the answer

- humans are intruding on bear teritory, not the other way around!!! Education is needed to stop conflicts between bears & humans. Please check out www.bear.org!!!

- The Asian trade in bears has practically wiped out all Asian bear species. We cannot allow this to happen to the American black bear species. This species is not exempt from the illicit Asian trade. Without proper protection measures being put into place, our American bear will find itself in the same predicament as Asian bears: on the brink of extinction. Please stop the bear hunts in New Jersey!

- after going to alaska i came to see how beautiful bears are, and how diffierent and amazing they look when they are free. Bears shouldnt be killed for being bears, it wouldnt be fair. If a single bear continues to interfere with people, then maybe it should be transported somewhere further away.

- we and the animals need each other to survive. If we do not stop ignoring our delicate balance between nature and life- we will continue to perish. Stop this if only you can to stop the nail going into your own coffin. If we had listened long ago to the native people of this land, and all indigenous peoples, to honor "all" our relatives and live in reciprocal relationship- not taking too much- we would not be in the state of the earth and ourselves dying right now- for less than 400 years it has taken us "intelligent" people to screw up this beautiful land that before hand was stwearded for thousands of years by "natives"- Our so called "progress" and "our thinking" got us into dying, please stop this so we can live. We need to find a better way-

- If we kill the bears, what will future generations have. Where does it stop? The bears were here first, and we need to give them there land back and stop building it.

- This is nothing less than demonic. The greed of building houses on the land that the black bears inhabit and then to call it an overpopulation of bears???? This hunting of bears is done every December and I can't be more frustrated with this issue. Where is PETA or the HUMANE SOCIETY? I have been to one demostration and witnessed the blood thirsty insanity. What does it take to stop this wild wild west slaughtering?
