We, students of Canyon High School, would like to petition against the modification of the school year scheduling.
As students, we feel that altering the schedule will not only leave us less time for homework, but will upset our study habits. This schedule would leave less instructing time and would bring about fewer opportunities for students to attend tutorial and ask questions. The shorter class periods combined with the increasing class sizes would not make a favorable environment for teaching or learning.
The preservation of block scheduling would conserve the enlightening atmosphere at Canyon High School.

    • I see no benefits in NOT having block schedule, Every aspect of our school life will be ruined. Sports will have to practice every day after school, because there is no way we can practice in such a small amount of time. The sport teams can not share the facilities or equipment at the same time either. These extra hours after school will add even more stress to us. Especially because we are going to be getting 7 classes of homework a night. Many of us take IB/ AP classes. If we spend 10-20 minutes before class to get settled down, pass in homework, watch announcements there is barely any other time to do anything. Sure we might get more in class time, but that is not learning time. How do you expect students to learn if their teachers barely are able to lecture? This isnt El Rancho, the classes we take are harder and we NEED the extra time. Not only that, but how are we supposed to test in such small periods of time, sure teachers could make them shorter, but then we wont be used to the IB and AP exams.

    • Block schedule allows us to get a feeling of how college is going to be. By taking it away, it will get rid of any chance of preperation.

    • Although I will have graduated by this time, traditional scheduling is not conducive to a rigorous AP course-load. We are successful because we have the time we need to complete assignments, and to study, as a result of block scheduling. Having 45 or 55 minute classes EVERY DAY will not work in favor of learning, and will not save any ADA money or otherwise help in any way. If anything, this will hinder the learning environment of the most advantageous of our fine institution's youth. For shame, Canyon. FOR SHAME.
