As citizens of the state of California, we believe the requirements to operate a motorboat are entirely too lenient. We are tired of hearing about all the boating acidents due to drinking. Do you realize that anyone 12 years of age and older can operate a boat. There is no liscense required or boat safety course required. The boat safety course is required in 12 other states. California does not have anythning to show the responsibilities of operating a motorboat. There also is not an open container law. Ideally, we would like to see a law stating anyone that operates a boat would have to be liscensed. We understand that changes like this will probabaly never happen. We understand that there is a
boating-related bill pending, but that bill is not scheduled to go into
effect until January 1, 2012, and then expire in 2022! That means for
4 more years there will not be a bill. As a result, we, the undersigned
demand our state legislators to vote into law the following realistic
changes.
1. No one operates a motorboat under the age of 16 years old
2. Everyone is required to take a boat safelty course, pass a test, and
carry the card with you.
3.

3. Any accident resulting from drinking while boating should also go on your DMV record.

Sincerely,

The undersigned
