We believe that "BOOK IT!" is an important incentive program that helps introduce and interest children in reading. "BOOK IT!" motivates children to read by rewarding their reading accomplishments with praise, recognition and pizza. "BOOK IT!" does not promote childhood obesity, it promotes setting goals and achieving them.

    • It really helped me keep reading when I was young. I still read today because I learned to love it when I was little.

    • My students love this program and I loved it as a kid. It would be a complete shame to take this way from them.

    • Book It! was one of my favorite childhood scholastic programs, and it encouraged many of my fellow students who didn't think that they liked reading to read and discover the joys of literacy.

    • A few pizzas will not fatten a child. Pay attention to what they're eating elsewhere, and what they're doing.

    • My daughter and I loved reading together and "Book It "gave us pizza for doing what we loved!!! This was fun and she learned. The addition of pizza once every few weeks was a plus. Think back...it was a personal pan pizza, about 6 inches round and you had to read a maxiumum number of books to get the pizza. How can you go wrong, it was a great program for us. She is 22 now and writes volumes. She also reads more than most 22 year olds. I think "Book It" had alot to do with that! Signed ...A very proud Mom

    • with language skills falling through the floor in America the most ridiculous thing you could do is to get rid of a program that encourages reading.

    • Book It is a great childhood memory and it should not be taken away from other children.

    • Hey, this is getting out of hand, clearly no one, not even children, will read for a month because of a food addiction. And a small prize like that isn't going to traumatize them into being food addicts.

    • Don't get rid of the program completely - if it's so terrible, change the prize. There's no reason to get rid of such a great reading group.

    • I won lots of pizzas through the book it program and I was not an obese child. One small pizza a month doesn't hurt. Parents need to teach their children healthy eating habits so the pizza is a reward, as it should be.

    • Both my daughters did the Book It in school. It was a great monthly goal for the entire family. We all went out and celebrated. One of my daughters now owns over 600 books and is thin. Didn't harm her a bit.

    • I do not believe that they should remove this program from elementary schools because it promotes reading in children who may not otherwise.
