We, the undersigned, who are Braille display users, friends and family of Braille display users, and teachers of the blind,
*: Believe that accessibility to information for the blind on a par with their sighted piers is a right.
*: Believe that due to this right, and due to the cost of Braille displays, accessing Braille through the use of Braille displays should not be limited by the type of screen reading solution used by the blind.
*: Strongly request that all manufacturers of Braille displays cease basing the drivers of their Braille displays off of particular screen reader drivers, but rather base all Braille display drivers off of the Human User Interface Protocol, which can be found on all Windows computers.
*: This will allow true portability and equal access to information for the blind, as they will be able to use their display with any computer. This will create greater competition in the market for the best Braille display to stand out, grant greater literacy in Braille through greater access to electronic Braille books and other materials, and support the right of all blind people to have accessibility anywhere.

- I feel that manufacturers need to consider that not everyone has access to certain screen readers. Just as you could download any screen reader onto the computer, one should be able to download a Braille display driver without any trouble, and the device should begin working immediately. Blind people have it tough enough. Why not make this change and make life easier?

- I am going to purchase a display very soon, and I'd be absolutely happy, if I were not to use specific software with it, I totally agree with the author

- I think, that all braille displays should be made in a way, that would allow blind users access to all platforms for which appropriate screen reading solutions are available, such as Linux, MacOSX, etc.

- braille display drivers should have been this way to start with. There is no reason what so ever to base them on screen reader drivers.

- JFW didn't recognize my braille display before my braille display died, which costs $40040 to get a new 40-cell braille display for the pac mate and my windows PC running WinXP from Freedom Scientific. That is too high of a price for such a display, and all because JFW couldn't lode braille driver and then the display died suddenly!

- The more mainstream access technology is the cheaper it becomes, the cheaper it is, the more people will demand access to it and the bigger the sales for the manufacturers.
