Only qualified BSL interpreters (MRSLI, ASLI or TI) should be used to interpret for Deaf BSL users in a legal, medical, financial or employment situation.

A legal situation may mean appearing in court, dealing with solicitors, understanding wills and legal documents, probation and police (CJS) and social services.

A medical situation may be a mental health assessment, GP appointments, hospital appointments and treatment, maternity or counselling.

A financial situation may mean banking, loans, mortgages, credit, pensions, benefits, DLA, job centres and financial reviews.

A business situation may mean help with contracts, interviews, health and safety, disciplinary procedures, complaints, appraisals, training and professional development.

It is important to let people know that BSL users are at risk if they do not have proper access to qualified interpreters. My aim is to let relevant organisations and authorities know that using qualified interpreters should be compulsory.

I apologise that this petition is not in BSL format.

Remember, only you can make a difference!
