Cut California Legislature Salaries

In the last months We've seen the California Legislature try to tackle our horrendous budget deficit. They have a terrible way of voting themselves salary raises even in tough times when they are raising taxes. According to one source, California state lawmakers are the national big dogs, earning the highest annual salary of $110,880. They also rake in $138.00 per diem for each day that theyre in session. The only lawmakers that even come close to that pay rate are not actually in a state; the District of Columbia pays its lawmakers $92,500 per year (with no per diems).

They have cut projects all across the board to get this budget. Seems to me they need to cut their salaries in half and save the State incredible amounts of money. This doesn't mention all the perks they enjoy but those need to be cut as well. In Jolly old England, if the town mayor weighed more at the end of his term, he had to pay...If the people have to pay, so do the Legislators.

    • I also think the retirement plan for Legislators should be the same for all public employees. It only makes sense that teachers, firemen, police, etc. enjoy the same benefits. They put their lives on the line, literally, every day!

    • Under Pete Wilson they gave themselves a 15\% raise when forcing State workers to take a 5\% cut.
