We community stakeholders of the Upper West Side, Morningside Heights, Harlem, and nearby neighborhoods, call upon you to vote in favor of the Ravitch Commission recommendations, so that the MTA will not be forced into dramatically raising our bus and subway fares, while at the same time eliminating our M10 bus line entirely, eliminating overnight service on our M96 and M104 bus lines, reducing service on our 1, B, and C subway lines, and raising fares for Access-A-Ride users.

Seniors, disabled persons, and working people of our community depend upon dependable and affordable bus, subway, and Access-A-Ride service as their lifeline. We are counting on you, our elected leaders, to preserve our public transportation now.

    • The CPW subway is often closed for repairs, & there are many stairs. Perhaps we could repace the M20 or go back to the previous arrangement. This bus is essential to our community.

    • Subways are inaccessible to many older people and to many with mobility challenges. Eliminating our only bus would be a hardship and would add to already overcrowded cross town buses.

    • While I am fortunate to be able-bodied at this time and not yet frail or elderly, none of us is immune. And, it is also my understanding that the M10 is the only means of public transportation for our neighbors in W. Harlem. I want to support those who need this service more than I do at the moment.

    • I cannot believe that this is even under consideration. People are being encouraged to use public transportation to cut down on traffic. So many already depend on these lines. Service should be improved, not eliminated!

    • The M10 bus is critical to thousands on the upper west side who live between Central Park West and Amsterdam Avenue...who cannot do steps in the subway...We must have our transport as upper East Siders do just east of the park...it would be discriminatory to end the service

    • I was robbed by gunpoint on the subway at 97th street a year ago. Altough as a senior citizen, I do use the B or C train occasionally during the day, I depend on the 10, 7 or 11 buses. I do not take the subway in the evening,, and depend on the No. 10 bus in the evenings after 8pm .. or when returning from the theater or dinner. Without the 10 bus, I will most tlikely not go out in the evenings. The 7 or 11 buses would mean a dark walk down 96th,, 97th or 100 Streets.

    • Fares can be raised if necessary, but to eliminate the M-10 is totally counterproductive. Money was spent to retool the buses so pollution in the city would be decreased. Are that money and health benefits going to be wasted by the MTA? In addition, the Museum of Natural History, the Historical Museum, the Lincoln Center complex, even Carnegie Hall and the businesses in the area all attract tourists and residents and provide jobs. To and from Central Park West, they are all serviced by the M-10. In difficult times particularly shouldn't we be encouraging attendance?
