Mr. Mayor, Madam Supervisor and Members of the Village and Town Boards of Cazenovia:

The Town of Cazenovia recently enacted a moratorium on development in order to provide time for the Town to complete its Comprehensive Plan for the Route 20 Corridor. Currently, the Boards of both the Town and Village are faced with annexation requests for major development within the same Route 20 Corridor, considered part of Cazenovias green belt.

We, the undersigned residents of the Village and/or Town of Cazenovia, New York, have added our names to this petition because we wish to go on record as agreeing to the following:

1) We place great value in the unique features of this community, including its rural charm, its historic Albany Street business district, its environmental quality, and its beautiful and essential green belt.

2) We seek a sensible approach to commercial and residential development that is in the public interest, is consistent with the communitys needs, does not jeopardize our environment, and is in keeping with a Comprehensive Plan.

3) We ask that the Village Board join the Town Board in enacting a moratorium and that they maintain this moratorium until a full Comprehensive Plan is in place.

4) We urge members of the Town and Village Boards to vote NO to all current and future annexation requests, including the CPF/Pioneer and Vogt/Muraco requests, until the Comprehensive Plan for all of Cazenovia is completed and in place.

    • I moved to this village because it is small, quaint and charming. I hope that it stays the same for another 300 years and NOT turn into what Manlius is turning into.

    • I'm not against development per se. But why can't we have Cazenovia-style development that we can embrace? Why should this community have to settle for the same banal, unimaginative development that has ruined so many other communities across the country? Let's plan and grow the smart way.

    • Why hasn't one of the many survey questions asked the people of Cazenovia why they moved here?

    • Both boards should follow the Towns moratorium and not assist the developer in circumventing their planning process. The boards need to work together for us all.

    • I would like to think that my village and town tax dollars are being spent in accordance to the objective guidelines of a Comprehensive Plan for Route 20 development rather than which interested party is writing the most letters to the Republican or making the most noise at municipal meetings. If there is going to be madness, at least create a method.

    • With so many developers eyeing Cazenovia, it makes sense to finish the comprehensive plan that was started. Then we can make more informed decisions regarding growth and development in Cazenovia.

    • The extended stay "Motel" plan looks eerilly like the Surburban Park development in Manlius. The plan for the Bank, standalone Pharmacy and retail area looks like the new "out of character" development in Manlius. Both of these plans duplicate services offerred in the Historic Business district. Are they really needed? Or is the plan to put the village businesses - Out of business.
