In August 2008, Health Minister Mary Harney announced that a cervical cancer vaccine would be given to all girls between the ages of 10 and 12.
On 4/11/2008 (the same day as the US Presidential election), Ms. Harney announced that this vaccine would be scrapped due to budget cutbacks.
By signing this petition, you are declaring that you wish for the HSE and Minister Harney to re-introduce the cervical cancer screening to young girls in Ireland.
In Ireland, approximately 180 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 73 women die from cervical cancer each year.
If re-introduced, the vaccine is said to be 100\% effective within two years.

- Why does it not surprise me that Mary Harney doesn't care about the lives of the future women of Ireland? Oh yes, because she's already signed the death cert of thousands of cancer sufferers in the North West with the decision to move cancer services to a "Centre of Excellence". The health service in this country makes me so angry I feel physically ill - the almighty euro is worth more than the lives of Irish men, women and children.

- BscHons Therapeutic Radiography (a cancer specialist). I was disgusted to hear the Taoiseach claim that non introduction of the vaccine would not cost lives. It will. 10 million could be easily shaved of the public sector overtime bill. Having worked in the sector I know all to well that work is postponed till after hours in order to claim large overtime bonuses! This Government is a disgrace.

- Hit the little people, the vulnerable and the most under privileged as usual. Someone displayed a banner at the medical card protest, it said: "Take from the pensioners to Bail out the Bankers", we can add students, teachers and young women to that list as well. At any stage will the government please take revenue from those who can actually afford to give it.

- If your looking to make a cut back, how about you increase your 10\% pay cut to 50\% and you'd still be on over 100,000 a year, yet you can't find 10million for this vaccine?Ridiculous.
