On February 5th 2008, CD101.9 was taken off the air in New York and replaced with a new adult rock format (101.9 RXP). The reason given for this was a declining audience for Smooth Jazz over the past few years. Like many fans of Smooth Jazz in the tri-state area I was shocked and dismayed to learn that one of my favorite stations of the past 20 years was no longer available. I also found the claim of a declining audience to be questionable since I find that interest in smooth jazz is expanding rather than declining. Internet based websites featuring smooth jazz music and information have very large and growing fan bases. Sites like smoothjazz.com prove that this genre is as relevant as ever.
In addition, the New York City area already has the Rock market covered by existing radio stations. Q104.3 and 92.3 K-Rock are currently providing rock fans with both classic and new rock music and have been doing so for some time. I feel that the addition of a new rock station in New York is redundant and unnecessary. Smooth Jazz on the other hand, has only represented by CD101.9 for the past 20 years. Without CD101.9, there is no other radio station that fans of Smooth Jazz can turn to for the music they love. Listening on HD Radio is not a reasonable alternative since most listeners do not have HD radios in their cars.
I am part of a growing audience of Smooth Jazz fans in the New York City area that is disturbed by an apparent trend in radio to try to eliminate the Smooth Jazz format in favor of new and existing formats that are perceived as having a larger audience (and therefore generating more revenue). I am asking you to show courage and leadership by bringing CD101.9 back to the airwaves in New York. Reclaim a solid and loyal fan base by returning to the Smooth Jazz format to the air and help reverse this trend in the radio market across this country. Fans of Smooth Jazz are still here and we are not going anywhere.
BRING BACK CD101.9
Sincerely,

- Please bring back my Jazz Station I miss it very very much. It used to calm me when I was both at work and at home. Iam tired of listening to the other stations. I miss WPAT 93 FM also when they took it away. I hate to listen to your "new" Rock Station ---- its terrible to listen to it makes me very nervous at work and at home. Thank you for your help in giving me back my Station. Yours truly, Angelo Corsino

- I have been a cd101.9 listener since 1988 a friend of mine where I use to work turned me onto some of the best smooth jazz that I had the pleasure of listening to.one of the first songs I got hooked was the art of noise moments in love. this past january I was hospitalized for 4 months one day I was listening to cd101.9 and the next day there was some weird rock music on ,I thought I made a mistake on tuning my radio wrong , but when I realized that they were no longer on the air I was miserable for the rest of my hospital stay. so please bring back cd101.9, it was , and will be the best smooth jazz station ever. thank you Jeff Howard.

- CD101.9 provided a meter of calm and a wealth of artists not heard on other radio formats. I think it was pure insanity to remove such a great format from the airwaves simply in the interest of money. We are a loyal group of listeners and it would be hard pressed to find a more learned and eclectic group of listeners anywhere...especially in NYC. Thanking you richie.

- I cannot believe that the so called "Big Apple" does not have a smooth jazz station. CD101.9 is the station that the other smooth jazz stations mimiced as they were simply the very best. For me I now must resort to CD's in my car when I am traveling until I reached a market like Philly, B- More , Boston or DC that can provide me with the smooth, calming at the same time uplifting sounds of this genre which for the most part was ignited by CD101.9. Please drop the ooze and bring back the smooth!!!

- I agree CD101.9 is one of my most favorite radio stations. I want to hear smooth sounds when i drive home from work. I turned to the radio one day and found out that CD101.9 did not have my listening music. I tried back serveral days later to find the same music playing. Please bring CD101.9 back we have enough stations that play rock and not enough stations that play smooth sounds.

- I have been a loyal listener for 25 years. Especially during the times, when I needed to recharge my spirit, with some brilliant sounds from some of the best artists. I regret that the station has opted to switch to other preferences with out polling the listener community first. I understand that during the volatile market and financial crisis we face , budgeting decisions have to be researched then implement the best strategies. However if the reason to opt to HD is to a declining audience, imagine what would happen at that spectrum where millions of other stations are competing. What I recommend is that the station be brought back have a poll so that the listeners decide whether they would like to keep the station alive. If finance is the issue, then bring us the listener community into a volunteer phoneathon program where we can donate and or help raise capitol on a yearly basis.
