More Info at:
To Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Staples, Target, and all retailers using Certegy check authorization service:
Every day, retailers using Certegy's faulty risk management system lose money and customers when checks are declined for no good reason. Certegy bases its decision to accept or decline a check based on statistical information rather than whether there are sufficient funds to cover it. Upon rejection - which is in itself a humiliating experience - the customer is directed to call a number for an explanation of why the transaction was declined. But Certegy customer service representatives usually give incorrect, vague, or even nonsensical answers to these queries.
No customer should need the permission of a third party to write or cash a check in your store. I urge you to sever your business relationship with Certegy and switch to a system that actually verifies sufficient funds in the customer's checking account, similar to the process for using a debit card. A person with proper identification, bearing a check that contains security features and is covered by sufficient funds, should NEVER have a check declined.

- Had check declined at Dollar General. Tried to call Certigy the next day and could not get an answer. The system actually hung up on me because they were too busy. The amount was $12.94. More than enough money in the bank. I ended up paying with a debit card tied to the same account as the check. Go figure.

- I HAVE had my identity stolen due to what these idiots allowed and have written them letters expressing my concers and they reply only stating that there has been no evidence that anyones identy has been compromised and that they could only offer credit monitoring services- which at this poit is not going to help me, I'm already ruined and now have to fight to prove it!

- Certegy? Who and what is this? I had never heard of this company until a recent visit to Target. In my opinion, Certegy is not a good company because they do nor provide reasons for declining checks. I rarely write checks and had forgotten my debit card while shopping in target, so I wrote a check, only for it to be declined. However, i was able to simply go over to the ATM and pull the money out of the same account. This same scenario happened again one week later while shopping in Lowe's. I was furious. Therefore, if a store is using Certegy, I am no longer shopping there!

- On May 12, 2010 my check to AMEX Travel Office was denied by Certegy for code 2. It was the second time in a week that I had gone to get currency exchange. The first check went through without problems. The second time, I was denied. I checked with my bank and there was no problem there. When I called, I could never get a person to talk to. When the bank called, the person on the line hung up in the middle of reciting my experience. It is absolutely ridiculous that one would jeapordize trust of his customers with such an incompetent company.

- It is very embarrassing to have your check declined by this company but have your debit card be accepted. When you call the company they don't give you a very good explanation either. We should be the ones in control of our monies not third party companies!

- My check was declined to protect both mmyself and Target from Fraud, although i had my driver's license and they could verify it was me. I was humiliated and upset. Target needs to use echecks to verify since they actually use current and factual information from your bank account. Rather than hocus pocus "guidelines" that single good honest people out as being risky, potential frauds, and bad check writers.

- I am sick of being HUMILIATED. Just because I prefer normally to pay in cash, I should NOT be turned down when I do indeed write a check. I have NOT bounced a check, and this is beyond ridiculous.
