To Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Staples, Target, and all retailers using Certegy check authorization service:
Every day, retailers using Certegy's faulty risk management system lose money and customers when checks are declined for no good reason. Certegy bases its decision to accept or decline a check based on statistical information rather than whether there are sufficient funds to cover it. Upon rejection - which is in itself a humiliating experience - the customer is directed to call a number for an explanation of why the transaction was declined. But Certegy customer service representatives usually give incorrect, vague, or even nonsensical answers to these queries.
No customer should need the permission of a third party to write or cash a check in your store. I urge you to sever your business relationship with Certegy and switch to a system that actually verifies sufficient funds in the customer's checking account, similar to the process for using a debit card. A person with proper identification, bearing a check that contains security features and is covered by sufficient funds, should NEVER have a check declined.

- My paycheck was declined even though others who work for the same small company I do cash their checks there. I called a number and was directed to a web site which asked for details. It then said no corresponding data found. Supposedly, it has nothing to with me, however. Walmart, the exploiter of the poor.

- Certegy has access to everyone's credit history because they are owned by Equifax, one of the big three credit reporting agencies. This had nothing to do with me. They denied my employer's payroll check even tho other employees have used their service. Never will I set foot in Walmart again and i will boycott other businesses using this "state of the art" service.

- My check was denied at Target 12/05/10 soley because it was the third store & check I had been to today I would have written. My account is good and long standing yet I was made to feel, by Target Employees that I was some kind of dead beat. Check amount $27.19

- I had been cashing my payroll check for the past 5 months every 2 weeks because I don't have direct deposit and it comes in the mail after my bank closes on Saturdays . I was totally taken by surprise when my payroll check was declined. I called the # and they could not give me any reason besides the computer rejected it. I did have to grocery shop so I went to another store to do so. ( over $250 worth of gro. ) I work for a multi BILLION dollar company. Certegy told me it wasn't me , the company, or the check but they still would not cash it. Total BULL.

- I just finished paying for my purchase with my debit card and decided to cash my check from The Commonwealth of Kentucky, Department of The Treasury, Frankfort, Ky. which I receive for participating in the Kentucky Works Program. I was completely taken aback when the cashier told me the check was declined (due to CERTEGY)!! Can you imagine? My debit card was accepted and the states' check was denied!!! I have been cashing these checks at this store for a little over a year now because I comply with the regulations to get them. I turn over, to the state, the measly child support my husband was ordered to pay and I go to college full-time, which covers the requirements I must meet to receive this check. I also work full-time through work study to actually provide for my son. Come on! Really! Now I have to go through even more time consuming, ineffective, completely unnecessary aggravation to get this money. ALL OF THESE COMPANIES NEED TO TAKE A LONG LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!!

- Belk, I even took them a letter from my bank stating the account is in good standing with a service managers signature. There has never been any fraud, no credit theft, no ID stolen. The computer you "talk" to gives no help and ask for personal info or for you to fill out a Certegy Gold Application. This is a scam. They have several class action due to selling computer data on millions of people. Why would any company pay a computer to "help" them loose business?? I wrote the CEO, and BBB and am still steaming because the store does not care or help solve the problem !!!

- I just had an experience where my two small children and I were out one evening shopping at Wal-Mart. After the shopping trip it was late and was just getting dark outside. I stopped for gas totaling 84.30 and my check was denied. I have never had a bad check or unpaid debt. I could not give the cashier the gas back which forced me and my small children to wait over an hour at night at a gas station until I phoned a friend who's husband worked in the area. He took off work and came to the station where he paid the cashier. It was an awful experience. I am scard to write another check!

- PLEASE quit using their service. I used to spend quite a bit at Walmart, but am now stopping until they switch services. All I tried to do was cash my payroll check and Certegy says my DL doesn't match, but DMV says it is fine.

- I would like to take it a step further by proving that Certegy denies 2-5% of all transactions AS A QUOTA, even if the check is VALID, in order to make it look as if their system is working. They do this because less people are writing checks and fraudsters are finding other ways to steal from businesses. Inconveniencing 2-5% of millions of people is OK with them just as long as they provide reports to the big corporations that 'something is being done' to protect them.

- They wouldn't let me cash my Federal income tax check at Walmart! All jokes aside, if the government can't be trusted for a check , who can? Hate Walmart anyway but this just reinforces my commitment to NEVER set foot in there again.

- There's something sinister going on with this company and its mystical preventative algorithm. It flags corporate checks (how are businesses supposed to make purchases--put a credit card in every employee's name?) with no cause and can decline a check even when funds are verifiable. They also have blanket authority to keep a customer from ever using a check from that account at any of their retailers, ever again. Their customer service has absolutely no power nor obligation to explain this "algorithm". What's baffling to me is that funds may, in fact, be absolutely verifiable, so retailers are losing purchases from small and mid-size businesses in an effort to, what, stave off a $25 NSF fee? My guess is that if someone dug a little deeper they'd find another agenda, primarily aimed at people who use Certegy retailers for check cashing services. Where's the oversight?

- I had a check for $27.00 declined when my account had $600 in it. After repeated efforts, I am still without the ability to write a check against any of my 3 accounts. And my debit/credit account has been nullified.
