Craigslist Phone Verification

We ask that craigslist stops requiring the manditory phone verification for posting in the services section until such time they can can fix all the current bugs with the system. It is currently blocking indiscriminately without regard to if someone has abused the system in the past with spamming etc. It also is blocking people who use VOIP and other alternative carriers and phone companies. Many long time craigslist users who never have had any problems with spamming are reporting they are unable to complete the phone verification process.

We understand the need for craigslist to find a way to defeat spammers, but the phone verification system as it is now, is not blocking them. However it is blocking many people who have posted ads to the services section for years without problem. Ideally you can find a better system that works without being so intrusive, but until then at least fix these problems before making this mandatory.

    • How come I want to follow the rules for posting to give guitar lessons, as I've long done, and now this phone verification stuff has blocked me -- I use vonage -- meanwhile, some other guitar teach poster is posting up to three times a day, using the same web address or phone.

    • Honestly I belive there has to be another way without such crazy limits. Perhaps the ads should just last 24 hours after which the server would delete the previous days automatically. In the end the little guy will lose by following the rules, heck they are already spamming, even with these restrictions.
