CBS has decided to save money on the best show on television, Criminal Minds, by cutting one of its female characters entirely (Jennifer Jareau, played by AJ Cook) and by severely reducing the part of Emily Prentiss (played by Paget Brewster) in the upcoming season that begins in September. This leaves only one full-time female character, Penelope Garcia as played by Kirsten Vangsness.
While we, the fans, certainly love Garcia, we also love Jennifer Jareau and Emily Prentiss and feel that this show cannot go on in such a state. It is a travesty of modern society that a network would make such a blatantly sexist decision. Everywhere in the world, women are devalued for getting married, for taking our husbands' surnames, for having children, or for having only female children and no male children, or for simply being women...the list is long.
In 21st-century America, this kind of thing should not be allowed to happen. These two female characters are integral to Criminal Minds, not only as valuable members of the team of characters, but also as representatives of a population of strong working women in a field which is still primarily male-dominated.
If CBS goes ahead with this decision, it will surely lose much of the show's fan base (just look at the online response to this story wherever it is printed) and one of its best money-making shows will no longer be so.
Shame on you.

- CBS funds a spin-off, then starts dumping CM cast members. I'm am thoroughly disgusted and so upset. There is little compassion of logic in this business.

- I tune in every week to see the family dynamic of this amazing cast, throught the years each member has evolved so much that it has made watching that ... See Moremuch more enjoyable every season, but getting rid of aj and reducing paget is just plain stupid. I will not watch if these changes are put into place! So congradualtion cbs you just lost a viewer, I say get rid of the damn spin off (look how well that's going for the csi franchise (not well!))and concentrate on the original.

- A very bad decision is being made here. Please bring back AJ Cook and Paget Brewster for the entire run of Season 6 and beyond. It is important for strong women to be portrayed on television and for the team to remain intact. The sense of team and women succeeding in a male-dominated world is the main reason I watch this show and without these two I'm afraid you've lost a viewer.

- It's an outrage!!! How can such wonderful actors be treated like that. The cast of CM is wonderful the way it is! Keep the Ladies on board!

- This is an outrageous insult, and I will stop watching. I joined this show and watch this show because of the strong female characters. I will stop watching if you're going to cut them! And do not make the mistake of underestimating the reality of that! If CM is doing well, why don't you just shoot yourselves in the leg while you're at it. All your other shows are going down the drain, so make sure that if CM delivers good quality each week, you do your best to undermine that.

- CM stands on a team-based structure, simply taking out parts of this structure and leaving it unbalanced will undermine the show entirely. In addition, before making such harsh and unthought decisions, one should take up a study and find out the percentage represented by the female audience of CM and realise how much of it they would lose by diminishing the screentime of female characters...

- Drop the spin-off - it was terrible anyway. I definitely will not be watching it. You will ruin Criminal Minds if you take the ladies off. The WHOLE cast makes the show. The cast is like one big extended family and it shows in their acting. You will lose so many viewers if the ladies go! Again, if you want to save money, drop the spin-off. Why try to fix something if it ain't broke? Please, please, please, don't mess with Criminal Minds. It is by far the best show on TV!!!!!!

- CM has always been a show that portrayed women in a positive light, both in its female cast members, who are valued members of a male-heavy team, and in the way it gives its female victims agency. If it does turn into just yet another all-boy's club, I will resign myself to watching no more than the reruns on A&E and ION.

- Keep the quality of the show, AJ and Paget are just as important as the other characters. Don't make a mistake by lesening their airtime.

- This is a disgrace! Both AJ and Paget are both very talented actresses and their characters bring an essential ingredient to the overall success of Criminal Minds. Don't make a huge mistake that will compromise the success of this franchise.
