World famous paleontologist Frank Garcia wrote a sweet song with a Latin beat about growing up in the Spanish neighborhoods of Tampa. The title of the song is Corazon de Tampa (Heart of Tampa). The theme of the song is summarized by one line in it: I love my Tampa.
Like many others here in the Tampa Bay region, I am a transplant. Yet this song expresses my new-found love for Tampa, my new hometown. Tourists coming to Tampa could well go back home humming this happy tune and thinking I love my Tampa.
Here is what Frank says about the song:
- Today I remember those magical moments in West Tampa and Ybor City that held me in its grasp and embraced me with a youthful innocence of joy and wonder when I was a young boy growing up in Tampa. What little of the red brick streets remain were the pathways to the different places in this town that helped form the inner core of my being. While I live outside of Tampa today, Tampa has never really left me. You too can discover that little jewel "Nestled 'neath the blue skies of the Caribbean" All you have to do is go there and open your heart, and shell find you! -
I added some photos from Franks family album to his music and put it on YouTube for everyone to enjoy:

I urge the Mayor and City Council of Tampa to adopt Franks song as the Official Song of Tampa.

- Having grown up in the Tampa Bay area during the 1940s, '50s, '60s, etc., I. too, can appreciate Frank Garcia's sentiments so nicely rendered in his own dulcet tones. To my knowledge, the Tampa Bay area does not have it's own originally composed musical rendition singing its praises. With Superbowl coming in February, it seems particularly fitting that the opportunity to use such a composition by one of its own should be capitalized upon. Plus, as the greater Bay area continues its development as a center of West Coast commerce, acknowledgement of its historic past must not be overlooked. I think our colorful history is an asset to be cherished and protected, as well as promoted. How better than in song!

- Having lived in Tampa my whole life, I must say Frank Garcia's song touches the heart and inspires the mind to imagine and remember our beautiful Tampa in times past, when family and community lived, loved and laughed even in the worste of times. More so now than ever, we need to be reminded how fortunate we are to live in our beautiful Tampa. Franks's song leaves a legacy of good times past and hope for a loving community for our upcoming gererations. "Corazon de Tampa" speaks volumes of what Tampa was founded on, love and pride of home. "Corazon de Tampa" will fill the hearts of tourists and transplants with the desire to live in our special loving community. We are a family of many, heart rhytmns insinc and open arms for those who choose to make Tampa their home. "Corazon de Tampa" encompasses the raw emotion we all feel for our home. Tampa's favorite son, Frank Garcia has mastered the art of expressed love.

- I love Ybor City and Tampa. This great song, "Corazon de Tampa" should be made the official song of Tampa and Ybor City. It is a catchy tune that brings back memories of enjoying a Cafe con Leche with a Cuban sandwich. Let's hear it on the radio too. Mike
