- The gallant men of the Hunley died while defending the city of Charleston against bloodthirsty invaders who were hellbent on destroying the entire town. It would be inconceivable to fly the flag of their enemy at their funeral.

- The Stars and Stripes was the Flag of the enemy of the crew of the Hunley. The Hunley Crew were CONFEDERATE soldiers/sailers NOT union. The Stars and Stripes has NO place in the burial of this Gallant Crew.

- They died as citizens of the Confederate States of America in defense of their Country. Don't take away their dignity as they would want it that way.

- The Hunley Commission is showing absolutely no respect to Lt. Dixon and the crew of the Hunley. These brave men fought and died for the Confederacy, they deserve to be buried under our beloved Confederate Flags. The u.s. flag is not the flag they died under, the flag of their enemy has no place at their procession or final resting place. They have already been ripped from their graves and their personal posessions stolen. Now you spineless men of the Commission want to add another insult by being PC in having the u.s. flag there.

- I spent 20+ years of my life defending the Stars and Stripes. As the flag of the U.S. it should be respected and it has a place in certain ceremonies. The funeral procession and burial of the crew of the CSS Hunley is ABSOLUTELY NOT one of them. These men died while fighting against the northern union of states. It is no more proper to fly the United States flag at their interment than it would be to fly the Japanese Rising Sun or Nazi Swastika at the burial of a World War II veteran. - When WW2 veterans were buried did the German or Japanese flags play any part in the ceremony? Of course not. The US flag has no place in a ceremony for Confederate veterans!

- I fully endorse this Resolution to ban any and all Federal flags and/or banners from the burial and funeral procession of the Hunley Crew, based on the convicted fact that flag symbolized the tyranny in which the Crew of the Hunley gave the supreme sacrifice while fighting against their enemy who forced subjugation and oppression upon a peaceful nation. It will be nothing short of sacrilege to display a Federal flag or symbol at that sacred time of the last rights performed for those Southern Patriots.

- As these Sailors died defending their homes, and attempting to break the illegal blockade of the Sovran Confederate States of America, it would be a dishonor to fly any flag other than the one they gave their life for. Deo Vindice, Commander, Princess Anne Camp #1993.
