A moment that many of us fans have waited and even prayed for has finally arrived, yet it has been mixed with a scrape.
The moment: A film based on the excellent video game series Castlevania has been announced.
The scrape: The writer and director will be none other than Paul W.S. Anderson.
I have two things to say about that: First, thank God that it isn't Uwe Boll. And second: The Resident Evil films.
Do I really need to say anything else? With the possible exception of Mortal Kombat (opinions are widely varied regarding that film), Anderson has proven that he is (according to a general consensus among video game fans) horrifyingly incapable of producing a video game-based film that is pleasing to the most important aspect of both the game-and-film industries: The fans.
We are the people that are at the stores and the box offices on the first day of releases. As fans, our appreciation is matched by no one. Despite these factors, we are the ones who catch the majority of the spit - straight in our faces - when we find that the companies that produce these films really don't give a damn about us. They show it by letting this garbage out into the open, solely for the purpose of a faceless entity getting their hands into our wallets.
It's beginning to seem as if the same thing will happen to yet another game that is cherished world-wide. It also seems that nothing is stopping Anderson from developing it.
And so, the purpose of this petition is to provide a means for fans to voice their opinions and desires for the upcoming Castlevania film. At this time, our main wish is that the story of the film is accurately integrated from that of Castlevania's. It wouldn't be difficult to do it justice. There's plenty to work with that eliminates the need for any of the devices that were employed in the Resident Evil films. We don't want another mindless action flick full of techno-rock and story liberties.
We hope and beg that those of you who are instrumental in the development of this project - which includes the folks at Crystal Sky Pictures, Konami, and even Paul W.S. Anderson - will listen to us, and genuinely consider our wishes.

- Dear gods another one?!?! I've already seen 4 games I've played and loved all ripped to shreds by the film companies... Really! if their going to do things like make video games a movie, they should use and stick to animation or CGI animation only! NOT use live actors. Blood Ryan, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Doom, now all live action all trash lacking in the real shorelines! they have no love at all when turned from a game to hollywood tat!

- While I love the idea of a Castlevania movie, I just can't stomach the idea of Paul Anderson writing and directing it; since he will ruin it like he did with RE.

- The AVP movie was not watchable. I mean, at the end, the predator was basically holding hands with that one broad...Please get a serious filmmaker to make this. Cool concept and a lot could be done with it.

- I hope this dosen't get made. Or if it does, let it be int he hands of someone else. He's only picke because his movies seem half-way competent, yet they are horribly written films with terrible character development, insane cliches, and annoying stings for music. Anderson's a hack who gets really lucky and this time his luck is trashing another franchise to loving fans of a persevering series of games.

- I imagined this vomit-inducing scene of the to-be movie once i read the announcement (mind you, to whomever it may concern, I am fully aware of the correctness of the Belmont lineage and such and such): Simon Belmont walks into the castle after talking to his close brothers Richter, Trevor, and Alucard Belmont, all with silver hair and tight clothing. He walks into a large hall, and suddenly, the ground shakes. Our hero, most likely played by Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, or Ben Affleck, looks around and says "You, show yourself!" Zombies begin rising out of the tiled ground, Simon Belmont readies his whip, and the action scene begins with the music "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" by Drowning Pool.... this is why Anderson should not direct the film. Anyone care to second this?

- To W.S. Anderson: You are a terrible, terrible man. Your pursuit in making this film shows that you only like to put big, fancy logos on half-baked movies that appeal only to MTV watchers and wrist-slitting 14 yr olds. I hope you realize what long term psychological torment you have caused the loyal fans of wholesome video games as well as a generation of children growing up in American society.
