PETITION: SUPPORT DANISH NEWSPAPER JYLLANDS POSTEN

On the 30th of September, the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten published 12 cartoons in its edition, representing the Prophet Mohammed. However, in Islamic culture it is forbidden to show any drawing of Mohammed. So it isn't unreasonable that there would follow a reaction towards the cartoonists from the Muslim World.

But in a democratic society, such as our Western World, it's unacceptable that two of those cartoonists had to go into hiding after some calls in which they were threatened by dead. Some Islamic countries, such as Saoudi-Arabia, have already declared that they would boycot Danish wares and goods because of the cartoons. The Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen was asked by a number of ambassadors of Islamic countries to undertake measures against Jyllands Posten. Fortunately Rasmussen declared that Denmark is a country in which the freedom of press is a high-valued good. And in the city of Gaza (Palestinia), a number of 15 armed men attacked the office of European Union-embassy. These are all facts that cannot be accepted as a legitime reaction against the cartoons.

Because our Western society, to which Denmark also belongs to, is in danger after those threats of an agressive anti-democratic group of Muslims; this petition has been started to show the sympathy and empathy towards Jyllands Posten and the Danish society in general. PETITIE: STEUN JYLLANDS POSTEN

Op 30 september laatstleden publiceerde de Deense krant Jyllands Posten 12 cartoons waarop de profeet Mohammed te zien was. Echter, volgens de islam is het verboden Mohammed - laat staan een scherts van hem - af te beelden. Het was dan ook niet geheel onterecht dat de cartoonisten zich aan een reactie vanuit de islamitische gemeenschap konden verwachten.

Maar in een democratische samenleving zoals onze Westerse Wereld is het wel ontoelaatbaar dat twee van deze cartoonisten dienden onder te duiken omdat ze telefoontjes ontvingen waarin ze met de dood bedreigd werden. Sommige islamitische landen, zoals Saoudi-Arabiл, hebben zelfs reeds opgeroepen een boycot tegen Deense goederen door te voeren. De Deense eerste minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen werd zelfs gevraagd door enkele ambassadeurs van islamitische landen om sancties tegen Jyllands Posten te ondernemen. Gelukkig heeft Rasmussen hierop verklaard dat Denemarken een land is dat de vrijheid van pers hoog in het vaandel draagt. En ten slotte hebben in Gaza-stad (Palestina) een 15-tal gewapende mannen een aanval op de ambassade van de Europese Unie gepleegd. Dit zijn allen feiten die niet als een aanvaardbare vorm van reactie tegen de cartoons kunnen beschouwd worden.

Aangezien onze Westerse samenleving, waartoe Denemarken ook behoort, in gevaar is na deze dreigementen vanwege een harde kern van antidemocratische islamieten; is deze petitie gestart om de sympathie en medeleving met de cartoonisten van Jyllands Posten en de Deense samenleving in haar geheel te tonen. De democratie dankt u alvast om deze petitie te ondertekenen.
