Due to Detroit's financial situation, there has been word about the Detroit Zoo shutting its doors.

The Detroit Zoo has been an asset to the community and a jewel to the city. It has brought in over 1 million visitors annually and houses a variety of animals.

We, as the public, need to let the Detroit city council be aware of the zoo's importance and cannot let the Detroit zoo close.

    • My children are now grown, but I still remember the wonderful times we had when we took a trip to the Detroit Zoo. My mother had taken me and it has become a tradition, my children are taking their children. Just last week my grand daughter said she plans on taking her daughter to the zoo. We all have great memories of the Detroit Zoo at several stages in our lives. Please consider the importance of the Zoo to many many people. It is not just Detroit's Zoo, it belongs to people from all over Michigdan and even other States. Save our Zoo.

    • A zoo is where individuals have the chance to see and experience the animals that they would otherwise never see. Although they are in a cage, I beleve that is the best way for children and adults to see the animals. Not everyone can afford to go to Africa, South America, or Anartica to see all the animals in their natural habitat. The zoo is a learning experience and where priceless memories are made. Keep the zoo open.

    • I have been going to this fun and educational zoo since I was 0 ( now 11). My family took me there a whole lot. I don't want it to shut down and not remember all of the good memories I had.

    • I have visited the Detroit Zoo as a child, I've taken my children there, and i would be extremely disappointed if i could not visit the Detroit Zoo with my grandchildren. Furthermore, the Detroit Zoo is visited by thousands of school age children annually for their first field trip. A memory that will be with our children for their entire life. Keep the Detroit Zoo open.

    • I am 15 years old and I have been going since i was a child and it has always been such a great place to go back to and it would be a shame for the zoo to close. I hope that someday I can take my kids to that same zoo.

    • I am 18 years old and ever since I was young, my grandmother has taken me to the zoo to see the polar bears (which is my favorite exhibit). I would hate to see the zoo close, it would make me and my grandmother very sad.
