Due to Detroit's financial situation, there has been word about the Detroit Zoo shutting its doors.

The Detroit Zoo has been an asset to the community and a jewel to the city. It has brought in over 1 million visitors annually and houses a variety of animals.

We, as the public, need to let the Detroit city council be aware of the zoo's importance and cannot let the Detroit zoo close.

    • Detroit is getting worse and worse. You can't even leave downtown without getting scared. Don't take away the zoo; the city is already mostly boring suberbs and shot-up ghettos.

    • What kind of World Class City does NOT have a Zoo? It is an important staple for kids and educators of all ages. To lose this landmark would give future generations even less local animal and enviromental education. Ask yourselves, how many of you Council Members have fond childhood memories at the Detroit Zoo?
