Dear President Hennessy:
Does Stanford University condone torture?
Both America and Stanford University were founded on the ideals of the enlightenment. Our University motto is "Die luft der freiheit weht."
As one of America's greatest institutions, Stanford has a special obligation to do what is RIGHT, not what is EXPEDIENT. Stanford must act with courage and leadership to protect both the wind of freedom and the reputation of our great University.
Professor Condoleezza Rice soon hopes to return to her tenured faculty position at Stanford University. Compelling, credible reports suggest that Dr. Rice planned, approved, and ordered specific acts of torture during her absence from campus.
Torture is incompatible with being a faculty member at Stanford University.
We hereby call upon you to initiate a University investigation into the Rice torture reports.
"We reject as false the the choice between our safety and our ideals."
- President Barak Obama
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."
- Benjamin Franklin

- don't reward incompetence; the Iraq invasion was the most mismanaged blunder in modern US history, and they mislead us in order to do it
