We the people of Canada petition the Right Honourable Jean Chretien, Prime Minister of Canada, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, to dismiss Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson from her position as Governor General of Canada.

Recent news stories have brought into public view the unacceptable misuse of taxpayers dollars by and on the behalf of Mrs. Clarkson. Mrs. Clarksons latest trip, where she will be accompanied by 59 of her closest friends, is estimated to cost the Canadian taxpayers one million dollars. We find this lavish spending unacceptable, and uncalled for. We were appalled to learn that since Mrs. Clarkson was appointed to her position the Governor Generals budget has grown from $11.7 million to more than $19 million.

Recent comments by Mrs. Clarkson, where she is quoted as saying, I am above politics, show reckless disregard for the Canadian taxpayers and her special relationship with them. The Governor Generals job is not to waste money on frivolous trips and expensive flights, but to represent our Queen. We ask that the Queen on recommendation of the Prime Minister appoint another person to fill this position

    • I am appalled at the blatant misuse of government funds by the current Governor General. It is little wonder that our armed forces do not have the proper uniforms to wear and equipment is outdated. When are we going to get some sensible leaders in place in this country who care about Canadian citizens instead of fattening their own pockets???? I can't even stand to watch their faces on the News anymore.

    • We all have budgets, whether at home or for work. We are required to live within these budgets. If Adrienne Clarkson cannot live within her budget then she should be removed from her position. She is accountable to the taxpayer.
