My primary PC operating system uses the Linux kernel, which provides many powerful features, great flexibility, and strong security. Unfortunately, Nuance's outstanding Dragon NaturallySpeaking software is not currently capable of running on a GNU/Linux operating system.

I will buy a version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking that is compiled to run on the Linux kernel just as soon as it offered, even if I already have a license to a Windows version.

Offering such a version will help people like me finally make their long-sought transition to Linux for desktop computing. It will also allow Nuance to open a brand new market for its products, for just a small fraction of the costs it has incurred to develop and acquire the language modeling and recognition technology that drive them.

    • I have been using and selling speech recognition software since 1996. Early products were primitive, but effective. Current offerings are brilliant! But there is no Linux support. Please produce a Linux variant. The potential market must be huge!

    • While Vista sees security problems it appears in June, Sun plans to complete the release all of the source code for its ubiquitous Java programming language under the General Public License, essentailly the same agreement that governs Linux. It's wise to be where the future is heading.

    • Linux, with its strengths should not be left out. People with physical limitations should have the choice of operating system, and I know several I would then recommend DNS for Linux to.

    • I am an independent speech technology developer. I would buy, use and promote a Linux-compatible DNS. Microsoft Windows is a sinking ship; tying a product to a sinking ship makes no sense. Windows Vista has its own ASR - a hostile move against Nuance. Making DNS compatible with Linux would open up enormous new markets round the world. It would also free people to move away from Windows and take DNS with them.
