Explanation: I would NEVER anticipate that he would resign. A public or private petition is not a legally recognized instrument and so may be initiated and acted upon by anyone at any time. It is merely an 'informal' vehicle for making a common sentiment known. If enough people make THAT particular sentiment known and it catches on it will get the attention of those politicians running for re-election next November in congress. I total there are about 470 of them. The unfit and feckless among them cross party lines and need to be removed. Among them are the powerful committee heads that longevity breeds. Voting them OUT and replacing them with a mixed bunch of "newbie" freshman congresspersons would disembowel The One politically. THAT's the point! I'm using this petition to focus attention on and advocate for a THROW ALL THE BUMS OUT agenda for November 2010; hopefully, to be thereafter referred to as The Election Day Massacre of 2010 when the government of, by and for the people was restored.
