The Evolving Door SLE is a sober living environment home located in Scotts Valley, California, providing a clean and safe place for recovering alcoholics and addicts to live as they adjust to life without alcohol and drugs. The Evolving Door also provides a place for the public to attend Alcoholics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous meetings.

In Santa Cruz County, sober living homes such as this are few and often have long waiting lists before residency is available. Thus, The Evolving Door SLE provides a valuable service to the community, and continued operation is crucial to ensure that its current occupants remain in a support-oriented lifestyle that so important to their recovery.

We urge all parties involved to work with Evolving Door management to discuss what steps must be taken to see that this vital resource remains available to those in need.

    • As both a licensed social worker in the state of Massachusetts and a mother of a daughter who lived at Evolving Door SLE, it saddens me to hear that attempts are being made to shut it down. Without the Ciarmello's compassionate but tough love I am not sure my daughter's recovery would have been possible. Emily is now working here in Boston for an organization that services developmentally disabled adults, and is attending school part time. With the support of their SLE it may not have been possible.     • Please keep this place open. Joey provides such a great support system to these people who are trying to do the right thing for themselves. It's hard enough to have to take each day as it comes without having to feel the threat of being evicted. They don't need the additional stress. You hardly even know that the place is there. It is nestled up on the hill and everyone is so quiet that you don'teven know that anyone lives there. The only way I knew that it was even there is becasue of the fellas going to Scotts Vallet Fitness. It would be a serious setback to this community to do anything other than support their vital purpose.
