We, the undersigned, call for the immediate resignation of Diederick Santer, Executive Producer of the BBC's Eastenders.
Since September of 2008, the viewers of BBC's Eastenders have watched in intrigue the character Danielle Jones (played by Lauren Crace) attempt to introduce herself as the long-lost daughter of Ronnie Mitchell (played by Samantha Janus). After a 7 month rollercoaster of emotion, Danielle finally introduced and proved herself as Ronnies' daughter, only to be knocked down and killed by a car as she ran into her open arms. This was certainly not the ending to the story which was anticipated by many. It feels as though the last 7 months of positive anticipation has, once again, ended in yet another depressive, bloody tragedy.
The viewers of BBC's Eastenders have waited years for an addictive storyline such as this one to end in joy and happiness, only to be cruely soured at its climax. This is the last straw, and have no doubt this will cost Eastenders dearly in the ratings war with ITV's Coronation Street, as well as in the upcoming television awards.
Santer told Digital Spy this afternoon (3rd April 2009): "Last night's EastEnders contained all the elements of a classic soap episode a wedding, high drama and tragedy.
"We acknowledge that we didn't deliver the happy ending that many of the audience may have been hoping for, and that for some people this was upsetting. We hope viewers understand that our aim is to deliver the best drama. That doesn't always lead to a happy ending.
He added: "EastEnders - like all good drama - contains a balance of storylines, both happy and sad. Were proud of the episode, the storyline which built up to it and the way the audience have engaged with it."
It is time for the executive producer of BBC's Eastenders, Diedrick Santer to resign in absolute shame.

- I have already complained to the BBC on the website regarding the storyline of Danielle and Ronnie, I cant believe after all the build up, Diedrick Santer decides to kill Danielle off in the same episode that Ronnie finds out about her long lost daughter!!

- It was a terrible ending. I honestly do not know a single person who was happy with the outcome. After a 7 month rollercoaster to have it all over within one hour was awful. A terrible ending to what could have been an amzing story

- Crap ending, should of killed Archie off so they all could of found out how evil he was. Also how many people have been run over in Eastenders sooo boring especially as frank ran over Tiff.
