The City of Estevan is considering establishing a Dangerous Dog Bylaw. Should specific breeds of dogs such as Pit Bulls or Rotweillers be banned?
We feel that responsible pet owners should not be punished for the negligence of some. Dont punish the dogs, if they are mistreated, they learn to mistreat. If dogs are raised with care and compassion, they will learn respect for others.
There has to be more options, such as mandatory training for these breeds or heftier fines for owners whose dogs get lose more often than not, which City Hall needs to address.
Thank you,

- I am the former owner of beautiful pitbul that I was forced to put down because of her breed. She was a loving pet and family friend and not her fault because of her breed's reputation. (We all love and miss Rudy)

- Dogs are truly only as good as their owners. WE don't ban sports cars because they injure more people; we don't put a gun in jail for shooting someone; we don't ban swimming pools becaue they statistically kill more kids yearly do we? Responsible dog ownership is the key and some people should not own a dog.

- BSL does not work. Make owners accountable for the dogs they raise.

- Breed specific legislation is ineffective, unworkable and expensive for taxpayers. The city council of Estevan should contact Calgary, Alberta to see how all-breed dog control by-laws can be successfully implemented and how zero-tolerance towards licensing and enforcement provides revenue to pay for the animal control department.

- I agree with a dangerous dog bylaw, but not breed banning. Punish the deed, not the breed.
