Dear Asda,

We, the undersigned, are very concerned at the news you stock halal meat. Whilst we are aware and respect that people have different religions and cultures to the indgenous British beliefs, we feel that halal is completely unacceptable. Indeed, for members of certain religions; this author's included, hurting an animal in any way, shape or form is anathema.

It is a form of animal torture that the Farmers Union, Peta, the RSPCA and many more reputable organisations have scathingly condemned.

We would ask you to cease stocking halal meat immediately, and work with the religious leaders involved to come up with a mutually acceptable symbolic ritual.

Until this is done, we are afraid that we will not be shopping in your store anymore.

Thank you for your time.

    • I am a user of your online homeshopping service and will be submitting another order unless these abhorrent products are de-listed. Remember, all vegetarian food is halal & kosher anyway, meat is NOT a moslem or jew requirement, mearly an option.

    • The reason that I am against the consumption of Halal/Kosher meat is due to the unecessary suffering that the animals have to go through. The rules for Halal/Kosher were written up for hygiene reasons in the desert. I have spent considerable time in the desert and will agree that there needs to be differing ways of slaughtering/butchering and stocking meat as necessary within such climes, however there is no logical reason for the continuation of Halal/Kosher slaughter. The death of a creature will be the single most stressful event in it's life, why should we make that misery, suffering and pain any greater than needed?
