Sgt. Evan Vela Carnahan joined the Army at the young age of 21. Evan showed his dedication and commitment to succeed in the Army by completing Airborne, Expert Infantry, and Ranger training. Evan along with his squad operated behind enemy lines in the Triangle of Death. On a particular mission, the squads hide site was compromised. The Staff Sgt. in charge decided at that time that this Iraqi needed to be eliminated as he believed his squad was in danger. Evan was ordered to eliminate the Iraqi.
The Staff Sergeants trial along with Evans trial was held in Baghdad. The Staff Sgt. whom gave the order was exonerated. Evan was charged in Baghdad for murder among other charges and was sentenced to 10 years. High-ranking members of the Iraqi Government attended the trial and we believe that their presence influenced the panel in reaching the final verdict.
Sgt. Evan Vela Carnahans parents are proud Americans, with four children, two who serve our country in the Armed Forces; Evan in the Army and Cory who is an eight year veteran in the Navy. They fly our Countrys flag with pride at their home and are a hard working, blue-collar family.
These soldiers represent the very best of America, they have volunteered to fight the war on terror for our Country, they have put their bodies and lives on the line for us. They deserve to be recognized as the heroes they are, and not be imprisoned by their own Country.
Sgt. Evan Vela Carnahan is not a murderer, he is a brave American Soldier who has served his Country and deserves to be immediately pardoned and released from the U.S.D.B at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Evan deserves to have his all of his rights as a soldier and a citizen restored. Please help us to obtain justice for Evan as he has a wife and two children who need him desperately. Your signature will help set him free.

- Please release Evan Vela! He joined the army with the intent to serve and protect the citizens of the United States. To go through the physical and emotional training of being a specialty soldier is a process many of us could not do. When the rest of us get tired at work--we get a lunch break or an extra day off. When soldiers get tired, hot,and emotionally drained, they push on. Even with the constant fear of being killed themselves. Evan made a choice my own son might have made--as they were part of the same team. I cannot imagine knowing what a good son and husband that my son is--that he could have easily suffered the fate of Evan. It makes me sad and furious that the Army has not protected Evan in any way. It feels like betrayal to me. What must Evan and his family feel? Please do the right thing and let this soldier try to pick up the pieces of his life and be with his FAMILY!!! With due Respect...Larilynn Murphy

- I am unalterably opposed to the war in Iraq. I am likewise disgusted to the marrow of my bones by the cowardly and hypocritical treatment of Sgt. Vela, who is being scapegoated for the immoral policies and decisions of the war criminals who sent him to Iraq.

- Why should we imprision a defender for freedom, one doing his duty? Evan went to Iraqi a hero and came home one, too, whether or not the government recognizes it.

- This is rediculous, you send a soldier over to do a job, he follows orders and then gets punished for it, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't...
