Fan Fiction Authors Unite! Give Us Back Our Write To Post!
On behalf of all the authors that write within the categories of Musical Groups, Sports, Actors, and TV Shows such as Survivor, Big Brother, and Whos Line Is It Anyway? on FanFiction.Net, we would like to make it very clear that we dont like the changes being made on this site and want our categories to stay up because they are creative pieces that we have spent many hours writing.
Nearly 20,000 authors will be affected by this decision, most of which dont know where else to turn in order to display their fan fiction.
Many of these affected authors thought of FanFiction.Net as their sanctuary, a place where they could post their fiction and have other people read, review, and criticize it. Many thought that this site was created with the fan fiction writers in mind. Apparently, they were wrong when all these new policies and changes were made to ban fiction based on real people.
If all of these policies are put into place, then this site shouldnt be called FanFiction.Net. It should be changed to SomeFanFiction.Net since fan fiction authors are being banned from writing their stories.
We, the fan fiction authors of the six categories listed above, think that it is unfair for FanFiction.Net to be taking away our only place to post our work. We are ready and willing to fight for our right to be authors and post it on this website.
Sincerely,
The FanFiction.Net Authors:
DKM (Diana Milevska)
J. Netterz (Jeanette Rogas)
And Every Other Affected Author

- This is an absolute travesty. Until the categories are returned, I will NOT be revisiting FF.net

- Writing about real people is not fiction. FFN is obviously not called "UnofficialBiographies.Net." Do you know what fake stories about real people are called? They're called 'misrepresentation' - yeah, that annoying little legal clause that a disclaimer isn't going to save you from. Writing fake stories about real people is the same thing as the stories in tabloids that you laugh at while in the check-out line. You're not borrowing someone's idea off a show or such - you're borrowing someone's life. There's a fine line, and writing "fanfiction" about real people is crossing it. If a complete stranger began to write stories about your lives, I'm sure most of you, the undersigned, wouldn't support that stranger in their writings. I support Xing all the way in his decision to ban stories about real people. I'm just disappointed that I had to become a petition's statistic simply so I could state my opinion on this matter without involving myself in an email war.

- While we're on the subject of those discontinued catagories and the NC-17 rating, they should also let us write in script/chat format! Some of my fics ("Whose Line" parodies) require script format. It's such tedious work to go through my fics and change the format. Plus they deleted one of my works (that was in paragrpah format) because of so-called "disregard for proper language". These people should lay off on deleting "random humor" fics! As soon as I find another reliable fanfic site, I'm going to put all my work over there! In your face, FF.net!

- Fan Fiction is a great site and they shouldn't be banning stories! We have the right to write what we want! Isn't that the whole point?

- I completely agree that it was a stupid idea to get rid of so many catergories! 20,000 people?! That's going to be ALOT of dissapointed FF writers!

- People need to take responsibility for their own actions. If you're uncomfortable with NC-17, don't read it. Don't restrict my right to read it nor restrict my right to write it if I so wish. If I wanted a babysitter, I'd hire one. Fortunately, I never got to the point where I wanted to post my stuff since I would have to remove it now. Not my loss but rather someone else's since they will never get the chance to read it. And you will never get the chance to get my $$

- The new restrictions on ff.net are getting ridiculous. This site will soon be too structured to allow for the creativity it preaches to its members. I'm signing this petition to try and stop it.

- I haven't written any real people fics as of yet but I still think it unfair for those who have, to not be able to express themselves using the real people as characters in their writing!

- What am I going to visit FFN for now and why do I bother to write? By enforcing this rule you are not only making yourselves as pathetic as all those who claim to be supporters and enforcers of freedom of speech only to slam the door on our faces when we try to speak or in this case write our minds... you should be ashamed of yourselves!

- FANFICTION.net CANT take down the music group section!! It isnt right to take down the main friggin section on the site. If they go through with this, they will lose most of the visitors, and most likely have to take down the site. what good is going to come of that?!?

- FF.net is hypocritical, their supposed to be slogan "unleash your imagination and free your soul" is a scam. The new rules are the complete opposite of their "motto". I hope that they would listen to the thousands of authors and readers who are disappointed with the ruling.

- Gibe me a f'n break! It's just fan fiction! Let these writers express themselves and their creativity. A writer who cannot express their gift has the most heartache.

- I don't write or read the kind of stories you speak of on FFN... but I don't see why you should not be allowed to express yourselves anyway you like, in your own categories. Good luck with this.

- Please give the authors back their freedom. The reader should understand that when a story is rated NC-17, that it may contain some content not suitable for younger viewers.
