Fadel Shana, a 23-year old Palestinian cameraman, was killed by Israeli fire on Wednesday 16th April, 2008, which also took the life of three bystanders as well. Fadel, who was working for British news agency Reuters, had stepped out from his vehicle to film an Israeli tank several hundred meters away.
"Several of the 3 cm (1 inch) long darts were also found in Shana's jacket, emblazoned with a florescent "Press" sign, and in his vehicle, an unarmed sport utility vehicle bearing "TV" and "Press" markings." (1)
This is not the first time Palestinian journalists have been killed whilst reporting the ongoing atrocities committed by the Israeli forces.
"Journalists have become casualties on numerous occasions in the Palestinian territories. Media watchdogs estimate that nine have been killed in the West Bank and Gaza Strip since 2000. An Israeli soldier shot a Reuters photographer in the leg in Gaza in October. Two Reuters journalists were wounded by an Israeli tank shell in the enclave in 2003." (2)
We deplore the killing of all innocent civilians, and see this as a systematic attempt to silence the voices highlighting Israels brutal occupation. Although Israeli authorities have refused to comment on whether their forces were behind the attack, Fadel's last video footage of the Israeli tank is damming. In one move, Israel has proved to the international community it will continue to recklessly fire at civilians.
It is also important to note that Fadel Shana was also injured by an Israeli Air Strike back in August 2006.
"Israeli soldiers did not make sure they were aiming at a military target before firing, and there is evidence suggesting they actually targeted the journalists," said Joe Stork, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch." (3)
It is a sorry case, for the Israeli regime will continue in its efforts to stifle such reporting.
But as the defenders of human rights and the seekers of justice, we proclaim The Truth will NOT be silenced!

In solidarity, with this petition, we - the undersigned demand:
1. Reuters, the British news agency, to pressure the Israeli Government to inquire into the death of Fadel Shana.
2. The trial and dismissal of the perpetrators involved in the brutal murder of Fadel Shana and 3 other bystanders.
T-shirts in support of our dear brother Fadel Shana have been designed:

- Once again, the Israeli military kills a witness to their ongoing genocide of the Palestinians of Gaza. It's outrageous. They deliberately targeted a journalist
