On behalf of the fanfiction.net community, I would like to ask that we have the NC-17 category back up and running.
Fanfiction.net, since its establishment, has always been a place where one could express oneself though works of fiction. Whether it is fan fiction, or original fiction, it was a place for writers of all kinds to express themselves with no restriction.
"Unleash your imagination and free your soul"
This is the Fanfiction.net motto. However, as of September 12, 2002, this motto has become a lie.
"NC-17 based entries will no longer be accepted. Though they are very small portion of the site the adult stories have generated almost all of the complaints filed on record in the past year. Moreover, the highest concentrations of them are growing in areas with subjects targeted to younger readers and with increasingly controversial subject matters. However, not all NC-17 based stories fall into the description but as result of their increasing volume a decision has been made to resolve this problem. Innocent writers will be affected but this has to be done considering the non-filtering scheme of the site. "
This is an outrage. We as writers are suffering because of readers blatant disregard for warnings. Any work of fiction that falls into the NC-17 category is CLEARLY marked and labeled. Every work of this nature is optional to read. Months ago, Fanfiction.net installed a PG-13 default, making it impossible for any work of NC-17 nature to be found, unless one were to change the default settings.
By removing the NC-17 option, this is mocking, offending, and insulting writers everywhere. If a reader stumbled upon a piece of fiction that is clearly marked as NC-17, it is purely his or her own choice to read. If they read it, it's their own fault and they have no right whatsoever to complain to the staff at Fanfiction.net.
We, as writers who are at Fanfiction.net, understand that it is a difficult decision to deal with reader complaints, however, by taking away the NC-17 option it has done nothing but anger and offend.
We will not take this! We want our voices heard!
I am angered, offended and outraged by this new development. It is not our fault as writers to get the punishment for readers who cannot obey warnings.
Fanfiction.net is a place where writers can express themselves any way they choose, and allow their works to be commented upon, in hopes for better writing skills. As of today, September 12, 2002, that freedom of expression, the ability to "unleash your mind and free your soul" has been disregarded and taken away abruptly.
We want the NC-17 category of Fanfiction.net back up and running!
I thank you for your time. It is my sincerest wishes that you take this petition into account and seriously consider my position as well as all the writers out there who are deeply offended and outraged by this.

- As far as I know, some people pay for membership on ff.net. What will be with their NC-17 stories?

- As the petition states Fanfiction.net has done all it can to keep children away from the NC-17 category. If people can not control their own children it is not the webpage's fault. It is theirs.

- I am outraged by the actions of FFNet. I am not a writer myself, but almost all the fanfiction I read is found on FFNet, and most of that is NC-17. Many of the authors do not have their own site, and their stories can only be found here. To take away the NC-17 category is to take away maybe the only place for these writers to post their work. It is a shame that many wonderful writers will have their work taken away just because some people pay no attenion to the warnings in place for these stories. They choose to go where they shouldn't, so it is their fault, not the writers, for any offense they take. Evey NC-17 story I have ever read has warnings posted at the begining of the story, and at the top of every chapter. I am saddened by the fact that FFNet has let people that have no regard for the warnings placed in stories to get their way in the removal of the NC-17 category just because they complain about it.

- FFNet no longer lives up to its motto and this once very proud member of FFNet had taken a stand by removing all of her fics as of Sept 15th. I will not bend to their unjust guidelines. No one should. Freedom of speech is a writer's greatest weapon and I will not allow anyone to take that away from me. I am truly proud to take part in this petition.

- I am outraged by FFNet's actions again the NC-17 rating. My sister Forsaken's fics were the main reason why I decided to browse through the site. But as time progressed, I just fell in love with many of the talented writers also found there. To see their rights trampled on like this is just appauling. Like my sister stated in her statement, FFNet no longer stands true to their motto. Shame on you FFNet for your blatant disregard of the term 'freedom of speech'.

- When I joined Fanfiction.net it was with the hope that I would finally be able to receive feedback on my more mature pieces. The number of safeguards regarding access to NC-17 stories has increased dramatically since then, but I am apalled that ff.net has decided to remove the category altogether. Minors who access such material know full well what they are doing. With all the precautions and warnings, how could they possibly not? Those who complain, I assume, are mostly "concerned adults" who are under the impression that this material is freely available. The only other category of complainers I can think of would be valid complaints from readers protesting the misuse and abuse of the category by obviously-juvenile writer, a minor who has gone beyond ignoring all the warnings and has decided to contribute. The truly innocent need no drastic measures for protection from the NC-17 rating. It's the ones who break all the rules, who go against ff.net's code of honor, who are wrecking the situation for the rest

- I am a fan of many of these authors, such as Megkazul and I'm very dissapointed in ff.net that they would censor so harshly what they used to welcome freely.I hope that with enough pressure they'll reconsider. They could, for example, require a special password for age verification, sent to members via e-mail,that they could give to their fans and friends. The only problem with that is possibly funding and the fact that non-members couldn't access them,but...it's a start.Free speech and creativity doesn't mean 'up to a point'.Some people are such immature prudes who just want to ruin everyone else's fun!The messages and warnings are there for a reason, that doesn't mean they have to read it or let their kids read it!Where's their so-called 'nanny'software that's supposed to be used by their parents, any way?Oh,well.I just hope that my favorite authors out there can find new,open-minded homes for their works.Despite some peoples opinions,a lot of these stories, particularly ones in the anime catigory, are well written

- I don't think fanfiction.net understand what it did... yes, exactly, they made their motto a lie. But, do they realize what they've done? They've opened the path for the trollers to complain abot other stories as well until NOTHING is allowed on there because it's too offensive. Also, how many of the NC-17 authors and supporters had paying accounts? I'm putting it at 50% or more. Say bai bai to that money...

- I'll sign as many petitions as I can if it helps to have our voices heard. The more there is, the more we can use. I understand that parents don't like NC-17 fanfics, but it's up to THEM to block their kids from fanfiction.net. It's completely unreasonable that the writers have to suffer. And the readers. To ff.net, heed my words. Many are angry. And if you were smart, you would find a better solution than deleting all the NC-17 fanfics. Otherwise, you will lose a LOT of supporters. I'm sure you believe me, as there are now more than 1 petition at you. So do the smart thing, not the dumb.

- It's not fair that the majority--who know how to handle NC-17 fics--must suffer for a small minority. So, some children got into the fics! They shouldn't even be there. They had warnings and you can't even see the NC-17 fics without moving the bar. It's their own fault. To punish us for their mistakes is truly a cruel act.

- Wasn't it enough that there was a filter on the main pages of categories that made it so only G - PG-13 fics showed unless you clicked for All Ratings or NC-17, along with the pop-up that came up when you clicked an NC-17 story? Those sounded like pretty
