Seizing the opportunity of a new Executive Committee (EC) under a new regime, I'd like to issue a call for reform of the Java Community Process (JCP) to allow it to produce more iterative and timely technology and live up to it's name as a "community process", rather than acting as the "corporate process" many believe it is today.

I hope that the new EC is brave enough to rise to this challenge.

    • I am a staunch supporter of the JCP. Serving the JCP has felt like an honour. But it will not be an honour in the future if the JCP is not credible

    • The curent waterfall approach to delivering specs every few years means that the platform will ose mindshare and segment to the more agile alternatives e.g. RoR or Groovy/Grails etc... Echo comment about opening up process to be more open and delivering artifacts to maven central

    • As with any long and detailed list of grievances, one can quibble with their relative importance. Three key issues stand out. (1) The specifications should be implementable under open licenses (2) Specifications should be developed in the open (3) There should be a process for maintaining and evolving technologies other than disbanding a JSR and forming a successor
