The undersigned hereby request that Microsoft alter the Digital Rights Management practices currently in use for downloadable content made available on the Xbox 360 platform via Xbox Live Marketplace.
These practices which are intended to prevent piracy, place unreasonable restrictions on content which has been moved from one Xbox 360 console to another through console replacement during in and out of warranty servicing. When Xbox Live Marketplace content is purchased, it becomes available to all gamertags present on the console and is accessible when not connected to Xbox Live. When the console is replaced, the content only becomes available to the original purchasing gamertag and only when the console is continuously connected to Xbox Live.
These restrictions do not offer consideration for those who cannot maintain a persistent Internet connection and those who previously enjoyed the content before the console had to be replaced due to defects in workmanship. The only workaround offered to recover the pre-replacement level of access requires the customer perform a very inefficient and inconsistent process with Xbox Customer Service that can take weeks and requires the creation of a "dummy" Xbox Live Silver gamertag which can never be deleted.
These DRM restrictions treat legitimate customers as potential pirates which is unfair and very inconvenient for those who happily pay for the content they enjoy. Simple changes can be made to allow the customer service representatives to change the serial number the content is attached to. This would make it a very easy process for a customer to recover full access after their console is replaced while still maintaining strong anti-piracy measures for content creators.
As consumers of the great content on Xbox Live Marketplace, we would like to see Microsoft review the service's DRM policies and implement a solution to this problem that satisfies both your customers and your content creation partners.

- I think basically how it's done at the moment is just backwords, and I hope it does get resolved for if anything happens to the system you can still play the XBLA games I hope MS resolves it soon

- I haven't encountered difficulties with DRM yet, but I certainly don't want to in the future.

- I just exchanged my 360 for a new one at Best Buy and will be running into the same trouble previous owners have. I would like to see a quicker/easier solution for this, although I understand there needs to be some protection (i.e. DRM).

- I'm all in favour of DRM, but NEVER when it affects legitimate use. Please sort it, MS!

- Been waiting 5+ weeks for Points reimbursement. My family can play no XBLA games in the meantime. Filing complaints with BBB and FTC today.

- Waited 7/8 weeks for a refund of my points. Very poor customer support and constantly lied to about when people would phone me back and what was happening. Only seen something done on my account after threating with Trading Standards.

- I haven't run into this problem myself but somewhere down the line my 360 will eventually malfunction. When that happens, I should be able to retrieve the content I downloaded without difficulty or delays. MS has more than enough money, power and time to fix this issue. What's happening to these customers is unacceptable.

- Having the same probs with the broken DRM. It took me 2 months, endless phone calls to unhelpful customer support reps, and 3 bogus refurbs before I finally got a replacement 360 after mine died! I'm not yet willing to do the same again after MS 'stole' my games, but I know sooner or later I'm going to have to as it's been a year already and MS still haven't fixed the DRM. How long has Apple had iTunes DRM running now?!?

- I'm now in Iraq without any Live Arcade games because I was told I would get a call back in 5 days. It took over 2 months and I had to leave. I've been hung up on 6 times, told that supervisors don't want to speak with me and ignored by Major Nelson. Hopefully I'll get my points back when I get back in a year once I get back. Thank for not helping.

- I do not have the internet at my new home so when my original xbox bricked and I bought a new one I found that all of my previously downloaded content and games that I had paid money for in good faith could not be played. I feel like microsoft have stolen from me.

- I've waited for 13 days after being told I would be contacted within 7-10 (not business) days. And since I am waiting on my 3rd replacement box I can only assume that I will have to repeat this whole process yet again when this next box fails. Reference #1027141691

- If the otherwise superb 360 was more robust in the first place, this would not be so much of a problem. As it stands this causes legitimate users, who have either received a replacement unit or have purchased a new console to replace a faulty one, to be massively inconvenienced through no fault of thier own. All we are asking is to be allowed to use something that we have purchased from you without having to jump through hoops to do so - not an unreasonable request is it?
