To: The Florida Legislature. Re: The Florida Marlins
You have recently stated you will not include a $60 million dollar subsidy for the Florida Marlins new stadium in next year's budget. You have done very little to support either of Florida's baseball teams, but especially it's first. The Marlins brought an amazing amount of attention to our state, not to mention the hoards of New Yorkers that visited South Florida for games 3 and 4 of the 2003 World Series. The Marlins are no longer the embarassment that they were in 1998 and you as the Legislature need to support the team. It is ludicrous that you are STILL paying Wayne Huizenga the $60 million dollar tax exemption that the Marlins originally received when he no longer owns the team! At the very least you could shift that exemption TO the Marlins. National experts are beginning to doubt the viability of baseball in South Florida. The question is not fan support, we saw that during the World Series and Opening Day 2004. It's a question of governmental support. Do you want to keep the Marlins? Do you want the attention and tourism they bring? Because if not, Las Vegas, Portland, Washington...they'd all be glad to steal the Marlins. And you would have ripped our hearts out. SUPPORT THE FLORIDA MARLINS!

- I knew this would happen! . Last year while attending my first baseball game after get new lifts put in my shoes, I decided to crawl onto the Marlins bandwagon! Wouldn't ya know it the State cares less about this team than the fans! Well, I'm off for my interview. I may get one of the "Little People" parts in the new Film "Under the Rainbow Part II"

- I am very upset at the thought of losing our World champions Marlins to another state because they cannot get any support from you. Please support our Marlins. They are not asking for anything that other sport teams don't have.

- What would you expect? I mean I actually thing Jeff Conine belongs in the Hall of Fame. I am living proof that an overweight Holstein like myself knows absolutely nothing about baseball. I just saw a game last year and figured hey, maybe I can pretend that I know something about baseball....What a Joke! Then a player like Jeff looks at me and being a big slob, I am smitten! Littledid I know he was wondering how a girl my size fit into one seat at the stadium. Thankfully no one shows up at the park, so I can spreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeead out! Marlins leave. No one will notice. I'll go back to grazing the fields!

- I don't live in Florida, but I've been a Marlins fan since inception in 1993. I've stuck with them through the lows and the highs have been rewarding. Without support from the state for a new stadium, the Marlins will ultimately move elsewhere, and key players will leave the team. I'd like to see this team remain competitive for years to come. I'd like to see them remain the Florida Marlins. I'd like to see the core players stick together because they are loyal to the team, the fans, and the state of Florida. Do not drive them away because of your lack of support.

- I've been a fan of the Florida Marlins since they started in 1993 and I have seen them give south florida enormous energy and excitement over the years. Sure the Marlins have had both good and bad years but they still bring in money into the economy especially when they but a good product on the field. Not only are the marlins supported by south florida but also are supported by most of latin america and now asia(thanks to the addition of first baseman Hee Seop Choi) which gives us global recognition which none of florida professional sports teams have. Knowing this you have still given financial support money to mostly all the professional sports teams in Florida except the marlins. So I ask you to please support your World Champion Florida Marlins by approving the 60 million dollar subsidy for their new stadium.

- A team like the Marlins with 2 World Series trophies deserves more respect. The revenue brought in (tickets, concessions, goods, taxes, businesses around the stadium like restaurants & hotels) more than make up for the investment.
