Change the Fate and Reputation of the Pit Bull Breed Through The Oprah Show.

I am writing today to ask for your support. I am a pit bull owner and advocate. As we both know, this breed has unjustly earned a horrific reputation in our society. Many of us try to spread the truth about this wonderful breed through education and through the example of being good owners and raising well-behaved dogs. However, we do not seem to be making enough of an impression, or perhaps we are not reaching a large enough audience.

I have decided to go through with an idea I have had for quite some time. I am going to write a letter to Oprah Winfrey, stressing to her the urgency to have a show that allows us to speak the real truth about this breed. I feel that her show is seen by such a wide audience that it could ultimately have a huge effect on our fight against the medias version of the pit bull. I have decided that a letter campaign would be the most effective in showing Oprah how serious we are about presenting the world the real truth about this breed once and for all. I have a pit bull advocacy page on myspace (www.myspace.com/pitbulladvocate) and I have sent a letter throughout myspace to inform people of my intention and to ask for their help. Some have written letters and it is very much appreciated. I will in return send all the letters to Oprah all at once to maximize the effect.

However I need more support. I need to show Oprah that there are thousands, if not millions, of people who want this show to happen. WE NEED TO SHOW HER THAT WE WANT A SHOW THAT SHINES A POSITIVE LIGHT ON THE PIT BULL BREED. A SHOW THAT TELLS THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT THE BREED AND NOT THE MEDIAS SENSATIONALIZED VERSION OF THE TRUTH. A SHOW THAT GIVES PIT BULLS THE JUSTICE AND RESPECT THEY SO MUCH DESERVE. A SHOW THAT HONORS THE RESPONSIBLE OWNERS OF PIT BULLS. A SHOW THAT EDUCATES THE WORLD ABOUT THIS WONDERFUL BREED SO THAT THEY WILL NO LONGER BE AFRAID. FOR WHEN HUMANS ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH SOMETHING, THEY FEAR IT. AND WHEN HUMANS FEAR SOMETHING, THEY DESTROY IT. WE NEED TO EDUCATE IN ORDER TO STOP THE HATE.

I am asking for your support. Please sign this petition today if you want this breed to be to be recognized for the loyal, silly, fun-loving, caring, courageous, determined breed that they truly are. If you want to truly see justice for this breed then you need to be the one to make the difference. No one else is going to. WE ARE THEIR VOICE!!! Are you willing to continue to let this breed be tortured, euthanized, discriminated, and abused? If you don't sign this petition than you are willing to let them face those horrible realities and it might as well be you inflicting those acts on them. Please everyone. They need us. Nothing will change without action. We need to stand up to the media, dog fighters, and haters of the breed! SIGN THIS PETITION! Let your voice be heard once and for all!!!

    • Oprah, please hear us when we ask for your help. Pit Bulls make up most of the population at animal shelters, and some cities mistakenly believe they are "unadoptable", so they are killed without even a chance of being saved. Ignorance creates fear, and the media feeds on this fear so they make sure we hear of every pit bull attack when actually they are rare. Pit Bulls were bred to be docile to humans, which is what they still are to this day. These dogs must be neglected, abused, or trained to be aggressive towards humans (although I've met plenty of abused pit bulls that don't hold it against anybody). They are so misunderstood, and probably the most abused and neglected breed. Don't believe the hype! These dogs were "America's Dogs" during the World Wars. They are great family dogs; just ask anyone that has one or two. The problem is when thugs and criminals get them for the wrong reason.

    • I hope that through a show that we can change peoples mind on the breed, I want people to know that pit bulls can be great dogs and awesome family pets. Just look at my dog. Hes everything that i've wanted in a dog and more. I'm so proud of him. He's great with kids and other dogs. My pit bull was actually attacked by a Golden reteiver almost a year ago. The whole time he just sat there looking up at me while this dog was biting him.I would love for people to meet my pit bull. he will change your mind about the breed. He such a great dog.

    • My best friend (sheri sweeney)has lived with me for about 2 years now. I love her pit bull. I watch my kids jump on him and roll off the couch and land on him and somehow he just understands that they are little children and he simply doesnt care. He dismisses it compleatly. I Love him so much. He truely is a great pit bull. I wish people would understand the breed before they judge it. Like my best friend (sheri sweeney) always says (people should be screened before owning a pit bull!) I agree with that statement fully!

I was scared at first when my daughter brought her home knowing what society has made these dogs out to be. but let me tell you one thing i wouldnt trade this dog for the world.Since she has come into our fmailies life she has changed and made us a closer family.     • My sister's pit lived to be 16years old and was never once human-aggressive. My son has a 6month old pit, Tanner, who we have fallen totally in love with. He is such a happy, loving doggie and so very comical. He has brought so much enjoyment to our home. We have made some great friends in the pit bull community in the past few months. We have been to several dog shows and met many, many pitbulls and I've not encountered one that I was afraid of! We are picking up my son's second puppy this weekend and just can't wait. They are great dogs and I'm only sorry I waited so long in my life to discover this. They are so loving and so loyal. It's people that cause the problems - not the breed.

    • I have 2 pit bull mixes that we rescued and I love them. We have a total of 4 dogs and are animal lovers. I also have 2 kids and don't fear them being arount the pitbulls. I do believe it is the owner who makes them vicious-not the breed!!
