To: The Governor of the State of California and the California State Parole Board
I am a concerned citizen of the State of California. I am aware of the case of Michael Duc Ta, a young man who at the age of 16 drove a car from which another young man shot a gun. Even though there were no injuries and Michael Duc Ta had no prior arrests or convictions and he did not shoot the gun, he was given a sentence of 35 years to life. Due to public outcry, his sentence was reduced to 11 years to Life. Even though this is a much-reduced sentence, given that the Life is still attached it is a very severe sentence. He has already served 6+ years of his sentence in adult state prison.
We the undersigned, respectfully request that you, as the Governor of our great State of California, in the interest of true justice, commute Michael Duc Tas sentence to time served and allow him out on parole. He has been continuing his education in prison and has been taking advantage of the few programs offered to him on a Level 4 yard. He has a strong support system and if given the chance will fulfill his potential as a respectable and solid citizen of society.
Thank you.

- I believe that trying Juveniles as adults and enhancing sentences is a disgrace to our society.
